BASIC SCRIPTURES: PSALM 66: 7; LUKE 17: 11-19

Psalm 66:7 (KJV):

“He ruleth by his power forever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.”

Luke 17:11-19 (KJV):
“11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
13 And they lifted up their voices and said, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.’
14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, ‘Go show yourselves unto the priests.’ And it came to pass that, as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
17 And Jesus answering said, ‘Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.’
19 And he said unto him, ‘Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.'”

Devotional for Today:

In Luke 17:11-19, we encounter a powerful story of gratitude and healing. As Jesus traveled through Samaria and Galilee, He encountered ten lepers who stood at a distance, for they were considered unclean and not allowed close to others. With voices lifted in desperation, they cried out to Jesus, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”

In a moment of compassion, Jesus instructed them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they obeyed His command, they were cleansed, their leprosy miraculously healed. However, while all ten experienced this extraordinary transformation, only one of them, a Samaritan, turned back to thank Jesus. Falling at Jesus’s feet, he gave thanks and glorified God.

This story reminds us of the power of gratitude and the importance of acknowledging the blessings and miracles in our lives. It highlights the significance of returning to express our appreciation, even when it might seem easier to move forward with our healed lives. The gratitude of this one Samaritan leper deeply touched Jesus, who inquired, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.”

Today’s devotional encourages us to be like the one who returned in gratitude. Let us remember to acknowledge the blessings, healing, and miracles we receive in our lives, both big and small. Gratitude is a powerful expression of faith and a means of glorifying God. Just as this one man’s faith made him whole, our gratitude can make us spiritually whole, strengthening our relationship with God and enriching our lives.

As we journey through life, let us develop the habit of gratitude, offering thanks for the blessings, guidance, and healing we receive. In doing so, we echo the words of the Samaritan leper and the desire of our Lord to acknowledge God’s grace and mercy with a grateful heart.
