BASIC SCRIPTURE: NUMBERS 20:1-13 (KJV)

Passage:

1 Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the Lord!
4 And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them.
7 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

9 And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

12 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the Lord, and he was sanctified in them.

PRAYER FOR NUMBERS 20:1-13

Opening Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the lessons found in the story of Moses and the Israelites at the waters of Meribah. We ask for the grace to trust in Your provision, even in times of trial, and to honor You in all our actions. Help us to remain obedient and faithful, knowing that You are always with us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

DECLARATIONS BASED ON NUMBERS 20:1-13

  1. Declaration of Trust in God’s Provision:
I declare that I will trust in God’s faithfulness to provide for my needs, just as He provided water for the Israelites in the wilderness. No matter the circumstances, I believe that He will meet me where I am and supply all that I need.
  2. Declaration of Obedience:
I declare that I will obey God fully and follow His instructions without deviation. Like Moses, who failed to fully trust and obey, I recognize the importance of aligning my actions with His will, so that I may honor Him and avoid consequences.
  3. Declaration of Sanctifying God:
I declare that my words and actions will reflect the holiness and authority of God. I will strive to glorify Him in every situation, ensuring that others see His power and goodness through my life.
  4. Declaration of Humility:
I declare that I will approach challenges with humility, acknowledging that God is the source of all blessings. I will resist the temptation to take credit for what belongs to Him and instead give Him the glory.
  5. Declaration of Learning from Mistakes:
I declare that I will learn from the mistakes of others, including Moses and Aaron, and avoid repeating them. By studying their experiences, I will grow in wisdom and deepen my relationship with God.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

  1. How can I cultivate a deeper trust in God’s provision during difficult times?
  2. In what areas of my life do I need to exercise greater obedience to God’s commands?
  3. How can I ensure that my actions and words sanctify God and point others toward Him?
  4. What lessons can I learn from Moses’ mistake at the waters of Meribah, and how can I apply them to my own life?

Let us draw strength from this passage and commit ourselves to trusting God fully, obeying His commands, and honoring Him in all we do. Amen.
