The Full Scripture Readings (King James Version):

GENESIS 19:12-17 (KJV):
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

2 TIMOTHY 4:10 (KJV):
10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

Introduction:
On this 17th day of December 2025, we confront two sobering passages that speak with urgent clarity about spiritual priorities and divine rescue. In Genesis, we witness the mercy of God intervening with forceful grace to pull Lot and his family from imminent judgment. Yet even in this rescue, we see the dangerous lethargy of a soul grown comfortable in a condemned environment—Lot lingered. In 2 Timothy, we encounter the tragic postscript of Demas, who abandoned apostolic ministry and covenant relationship “having loved this present world.” Together, these scriptures form a profound warning and a merciful call: God provides a way of escape from coming judgment, but we must respond with immediacy and without backward longing. As we prepare our hearts for Christ’s coming, we are reminded that our deliverance requires our active cooperation and undivided affection.

Prayer Points (Anchored in KJV Scripture):

  1. Prayer for Divine Warning and Spiritual Alertness
*Merciful Father, as You sent angels to warn Lot, “Bring them out of this place; for we will destroy this place” (Genesis 19:12-13), open my ears to Your warnings. Where You are calling me to come out and be separate from sinful systems, relationships, or compromises, give me clarity. Prevent me from dismissing Your word as mockery, as Lot’s sons-in-law did. Make me spiritually alert to the urgency of the hour.*

  2. Prayer Against Spiritual Lingering
Lord, You see my heart. You know where, like Lot, I “lingered” (Genesis 19:16) when You commanded haste. Forgive my delayed obedience, my attachment to places and patterns You have marked for destruction. Where I have grown comfortable in my own “Sodom,” unsettle me. Hasten me by Your Spirit to obey without hesitation.

  3. Prayer for God’s Merciful Intervention
Heavenly Father, I thank You that “the LORD being merciful unto him… they brought him forth” (Genesis 19:16). Even in my lingering, thank You for Your mercy that sometimes forcibly pulls me from danger. I yield to Your pulling today. Where I lack the will to move, lay hold of my hand and drag me to safety, for Your name’s sake.

  4. Prayer for Complete Separation: “Look Not Behind Thee”
God of holiness, Your command was absolute: “look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain” (Genesis 19:17). Break every nostalgic pull toward my old life of sin, compromise, or worldly alliance. Give me the grace for a clean break—no backward glances, no pauses in the place of danger. Set my face fully toward the place of refuge You have appointed.

  5. Prayer for Deliverance from Love of This Present World
Lord Jesus, guard my heart from the spirit of Demas, who “hath forsaken me, having loved this present world” (2 Timothy 4:10). Where the attractions, values, and pleasures of this age compete for my supreme affection, purify my love. Let my primary devotion be to You, Your kingdom, and Your eternal purpose, lest I forsake my post and depart from Your calling.

  6. Prayer for Faithful Steadfastness
Father, in a generation where many depart, establish me in faithfulness. Let me not be a Crescens (going to Galatia) or Demas (departing to Thessalonica) in spirit, but rather like Titus, faithful in the assignment given, even if it is to a difficult place (Dalmatia). Root me in covenant loyalty to You and Your people.

  7. Prayer for Family Deliverance
Compassionate God, as Lot pleaded for his family, I intercede for my household. Where my testimony has seemed like “mockery” (Genesis 19:14) to them, make it compellingly real. Send Your messengers. Hasten their deliverance. Lay hold of their hands in mercy, and bring them out of any spiritual danger, that my whole house may be saved.

  8. Prayer to Heed the Cry Against Sin
Righteous Judge, the angels said, “the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD” (Genesis 19:13). Let my spirit be sensitive to the collective sin that grieves You. Where my culture, my community, or my own heart has generated a cry that demands judgment, bring me to repentance. Let me be part of the solution, not the problem.

  9. Prayer for the Mountain of Refuge
You commanded escape “to the mountain” (Genesis 19:17). You are my mountain of refuge, my strong tower. I run to You today. Be my high place of safety, my fortress, and my dwelling. In You alone is there security from the consuming judgments of this world.

  10. Prayer for the Church to Awaken to Urgency
Holy Spirit, awaken Your Church from lingering. Sound the trumpet in Zion. Call us out from every alliance with a doomed system. Deliver us from love of the present world. Make us a people who escape decisively to Christ, our mountain, and who faithfully occupy until He comes, with no one looking back.

Declarations (Based on KJV Scripture):

  1. I declare that I heed God’s warning. I am bringing out all that He has entrusted to me from every place marked by His judgment. I will not be destroyed with the world system (Genesis 19:12-13).

  2. I declare that my season of lingering is over. When God says “Arise,” I arise immediately. I will not be consumed due to delayed obedience (Genesis 19:15-16).

  3. I declare that the Lord’s mercy is actively laying hold of my hand and pulling me to safety. Even my weakness is overcome by His compassionate intervention (Genesis 19:16).

  4. I declare that I am escaping for my life. I will not look behind me with longing for what God has condemned. I will not stay in the plain of compromise. My face is set toward the mountain of God’s presence and purpose (Genesis 19:17).

  5. I declare that I reject the spirit of Demas. I do not love this present world. My love is set on Christ, His appearing, and His eternal kingdom. I will not forsake my calling (2 Timothy 4:10).

  6. I declare that I am a Titus, faithful to my assignment, not a Demas, departing for worldly comfort. I am steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.

  7. I declare that my household is under the mandate of deliverance. The mercy of God is reaching my sons, daughters, and all under my influence, bringing them out of spiritual Sodom.

  8. I declare that my life does not add to the “cry” against sin that rises before God. Instead, my life is a cry for mercy, holiness, and revival.

  9. I declare that Jesus Christ is my mountain of refuge. I am escaping to Him, and in Him, I am completely safe, provided for, and established.

  10. I declare that I am part of a Church that is awake, urgent, and separated. We are moving as one to higher ground, leaving the world behind, and faithfully awaiting our Lord.

Closing Prayer:
God of Mercy and Judgment, we thank You for the severe mercy displayed in Your word today. You are patient, warning and providing escape. Forgive us for our lingering, our backward glances, and our secret love for a world You have condemned. Thank You for Your hand that graciously pulls us when we dawdle. In this moment, we arise. We choose to escape to You, our mountain. We set our love upon You, renouncing the passing pleasures of sin. Fill us with a holy urgency for ourselves, our families, and Your Church. May we be found faithful, not forsakers, when You appear. In the mighty name of Jesus, our sure refuge, we pray, Amen.

KEY TAKEAWAY: God’s mercy provides a way of escape, but it demands an urgent, decisive, and complete response. Lingering can be fatal, and love for this present world is spiritual adultery. Today, hear the command to “Arise” and “Escape.” Do not look back. Do not pause. Run to Christ, your mountain of safety, and hold fast to Him alone. Your deliverance is both His work and your necessary, immediate choice.
