BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 67: 1 – 7

67 God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.

That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.

God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Psalm 67 is a beautiful prayer for God’s blessings and the spread of His goodness to all nations. It is a song of praise and supplication, expressing a desire for God’s mercy and blessings to be bestowed upon His people and for His ways to be known throughout the world. The psalmist also envisions a time when all nations will joyfully praise God and recognize His righteous rule.

Verse 2: “That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.” The psalmist’s intention is that God’s ways and His redemptive plan would be made known throughout the world, spreading His salvation and healing among all nations.

Verse 3: “Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.” Here, the psalmist calls for universal praise to God, desiring that people from all corners of the earth would acknowledge and worship Him.

Verse 4: “O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.” The psalmist looks forward to a time when the nations will rejoice and celebrate because of God’s righteous judgment and governance. This verse again contains the word “Selah,” suggesting a pause for contemplation.

Verse 5: “Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.” This repetition emphasizes the psalmist’s fervent desire for widespread praise and worship of God.

Verse 6: “Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.” The psalmist envisions a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world. When people acknowledge and praise God, the earth’s productivity will flourish, and God’s blessings will be poured out upon them.

Verse 7: “God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.” The psalm concludes with the affirmation that God’s blessings will indeed be bestowed upon His people. As a result, reverence and awe for God will extend to the farthest reaches of the earth.
