Basic Scripture for Today 1st SEPTEMBER 2025 Prayer points and Declarations

BASIC SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: 1ST SEPTEMBER 2025 – ECCLESIASTES 9:1-12 (NKJV)
The text, from the New King James Version, reads:
1 For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them.
2 All things come alike to all: One event happens to the righteous and the wicked; To the good, the clean, and the unclean; To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; He who takes an oath as he who fears an oath.
3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
4 But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun.
7 Go, eat your bread with joy, And drink your wine with a merry heart; For God has already accepted your works.
8 Let your garments always be white, And let your head lack no oil.
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun.
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.
11 I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.
12 For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them.
CONTEMPLATION: FINDING HOPE IN A MYSTERIOUS WORLD
This passage from Ecclesiastes, written by the wise Preacher (traditionally Solomon), presents a stark, realistic view of life “under the sun” (from a purely human, earthly perspective). It observes the perplexing mysteries of life: the righteous and wicked often face the same fate (v. 2), and success is not guaranteed even to the most talented (v. 11). Death is the great equalizer (v. 5), and time and chance happen to everyone (v. 11).
Yet, embedded in this realism is a powerful gospel of hope. The chapter does not end in despair but in a profound call to purposeful living. The key is found in verse 1: “the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God.” Despite life’s apparent randomness, God is sovereign. Our lives are secure in His grasp. This truth allows us to live not with frantic anxiety, but with faithful intention.
The Preacher’s advice is our guide: Because life is a gift and God is in control, we are to live with joy, love wholeheartedly, work diligently, and trust God with the outcomes we cannot see. Our hope is not in avoiding the uncertainties of life but in the God who holds us through them.
PRAYER POINTS AND DECLARATIONS FOR 1ST SEPTEMBER 2025
A. Prayer Points:
-
Sovereignty Acknowledgement: Father, I acknowledge today that my life, my family, and my work are in Your hand (v. 1). I surrender my need to understand everything and I choose to trust in Your supreme sovereignty over my life’s events.
-
Prayer Against Evil and Madness: Lord, deliver my heart from the “evil and madness” that v. 3 speaks of. Purge me from hidden sins, foolish thoughts, and the chaos of a mind without Christ.
-
The Prayer of Hope: I thank You for the gift of life and the hope it represents (v. 4). As long as I have breath, I have hope for a turnaround, for salvation for loved ones, and for the fulfillment of Your promises.
-
Prayer for Purposeful Living: Father, ignite in me a passion to live purposefully. Help me to “whatever my hand finds to do, do it with my might” (v. 10) as an act of worship unto You, not unto men.
-
Prayer for Joy and Gratitude: Teach me to obey Your command in v. 7. Help me to eat my bread with joy and drink with a merry heart, cultivating a spirit of gratitude for the daily blessings I often take for granted.
-
Prayer for Favor Beyond Skill: I pray against the “time and chance” that can hinder even the skilled (v. 11). I ask for Your divine favor to supersede my natural abilities and to open doors that no man can shut.
-
Prayer for Divine Awareness: Sharpens my spiritual senses. Let me not be like a fish caught in a cruel net (v. 12), unaware of the times. Make me discerning of seasons and alert to both spiritual danger and divine opportunity.
-
Prayer for Family Love: I pray for my family and marriage/relationships. Help me to “live joyfully” with those You have given me (v. 9), cherishing every day and loving deeply as unto You.
-
Prayer for Consecration: Lord, as v. 8 says, let my garments always be white (righteousness) and let my head lack no oil (the anointing of the Holy Spirit). Keep me pure and empowered for Your use.
-
Prayer for the End Times: As I read of “an evil time” that falls suddenly (v. 12), I pray for readiness for the return of Christ. Keep me watching, working, and waiting with a faithful heart.
