BASIC SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: 3RD SEPTEMBER 2025 – 1 JOHN 3:16-24 (NKJV)

16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

CONTEMPLATION: THE ECONOMY OF HEAVEN’S LOVE

The Apostle John presents a radical, tangible, and undeniable definition of love. It is not measured by sentiment or words alone, but by action and sacrifice. The ultimate standard is Christ Himself: “He laid down His life for us.” This is the pattern we are called to follow.

This passage creates a direct link between our vertical relationship with God and our horizontal relationship with people. It argues that it is impossible to claim to have God’s love abiding in us if we are indifferent to the practical needs of those around us (v. 17). True love is practical; it gets its hands dirty (v. 18).

This life of active love has a profound effect on our inner world and our prayer life. When we love in “deed and in truth,” it reassures our hearts of our salvation (v. 19) and silences the voice of self-condemnation (v. 20-21). This assurance, in turn, births incredible confidence in prayer. Our obedience in loving others positions us to receive whatever we ask because our will aligns with His—and His commandment is to believe in Jesus and love one another (v. 22-23). It is a beautiful cycle of faith, love, and power. Basic Scripture for Today 3rd SEPTEMBER 2025 Prayer points and Declarations

PRAYER POINTS FOR 3RD SEPTEMBER 2025

  1. Prayer for Revelation of Christ’s Love: Father, open the eyes of my heart to understand the depth, width, and height of the love demonstrated when Christ laid down His life for me. Let this be the foundational model for all my relationships (1 John 3:16).

  2. Prayer for a Selfless Heart: Lord, crucify my selfish nature. Create in me a heart willing to “lay down my life” for my brothers and sisters—whether that means sacrificing my time, resources, comfort, or pride for their good (1 John 3:16). 3. Prayer for Compassionate Eyes: Holy Spirit, make me acutely aware of the needs around me. Break my heart for what breaks Yours. Don’t allow me to shut up my compassion when I see a brother or sister in need (1 John 3:17).

  4. Prayer for Action-Oriented Love: God, move me beyond talking about love to demonstrating it. Give me divine strategies and opportunities to show Your love in practical, tangible deeds and in genuine truth today (1 John 3:18).

  5. Prayer for Heart Assurance: When doubts assail me, let my record of obedience—my acts of love—reassure my heart that I am truly of You and belong to the truth (1 John 3:19).

  6. Prayer for Freedom from Condemnation: When my own heart condemns me, remind me that You, God, are greater than my feelings. You know all things, including my repentant heart and my desire to obey You. Silence the accuser’s voice within (1 John 3:20).

  7. Prayer for Bold Confidence: Because I seek to love others, I claim confidence before You, God. I approach Your throne of grace today with boldness and assurance, not with shame or fear (1 John 3:21).

  8. Prayer for Powerful Petition: I stand on the promise that because I keep Your commandments and please You, I will receive what I ask for in prayer. Align my desires with Yours so that my prayers are always in accordance with Your will (1 John 3:22).

  9. Prayer for Faith and Love Fusion: Lord, help me to perfectly blend the two greatest commandments: to believe wholeheartedly in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and to love others fervently. Let my faith be expressed through my love (1 John 3:23).

  10. Prayer for Conscious Abiding: Father, as I strive to keep Your commandments, make me ever-conscious of Your abiding presence in me and I in You. Thank You for the Holy Spirit who bears witness to this truth in my heart (1 John 3:24). Basic Scripture for Today 3rd SEPTEMBER 2025 Prayer points and Declarations
