22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.
24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

CONTEMPLATION: FOCUS AMIDST THE STORM
This powerful narrative is a microcosm of the Christian life. The disciples are obediently in the boat, going where Jesus sent them, yet they find themselves in a storm, with contrary winds and tossing waves. Sometimes, obedience leads us directly into challenges.
Jesus comes to them in the midst of their storm, but not in the way they expect. His presence initially frightens them more. How often does God’s answer to our prayer seem strange or frightening at first? His first words are always, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (v. 27). His presence is the solution to our fear.
Peter’s journey is our journey. He steps out in daring faith, focused solely on Jesus, and does the impossible. But the moment he shifts his focus from the Master to the magnitude of the storm, he begins to sink. His cry is one of the most honest and effective prayers in the Bible: “Lord, save me!” (v. 30). The lesson is profound: We will sink if we focus on the storm, but we can walk on water if we focus on the Savior. Even when our faith wavers, His grip on us is sure and immediate.
PRAYER POINTS FOR 5TH SEPTEMBER 2025

Prayer for Obedience in the Journey: Lord, even when You lead me into situations that become challenging, help me to remember that I am in the center of Your will. I trust Your command to “go to the other side” (v. 22).

Prayer for Perceiving His Presence: When challenges arise, open my spiritual eyes to see You coming towards me. Help me to recognize Your presence in the midst of my storm, even if it comes in an unexpected way (v. 25-26).

Prayer Against Fear: I reject the spirit of fear. When I hear Your voice saying, “It is I; do not be afraid,” let courage rise in my heart. Silence every voice of terror and panic (v. 27).

Prayer for Daring Faith: Like Peter, give me the faith to step out of my “boat” of comfort and security. I ask You to command me into new realms of faith and impossibility for Your glory (v. 28).

Prayer for Laser Focus: Lord, as I step out in faith, help me to keep my eyes fixed intently on You. Guard my gaze from the “boisterous winds” and waves of my circumstances (v. 30).

Prayer for a Swift Cry: When I feel myself beginning to sink under doubt, fear, or overwhelming circumstances, remind me to immediately cry out, “Lord, save me!” (v. 30).

Prayer for His Immediate Grasp: I thank You that Your response to my cry is immediate. I declare that even when my faith is small, Your hand is strong and sure to catch me and hold me up (v. 31).

Prayer Against Doubt: Jesus, reveal the areas of doubt in my heart. Strengthen my faith where it is little. Help me to believe not just in Your power, but in Your personal care for me in the storm (v. 31).

Prayer for Ultimate Peace: I pray for the moment when I am back in the boat with You, when the winds cease, and perfect peace reigns. Thank You that You are the Prince of Peace who calms every storm (v. 32).

I DECLARE: I am in the place where Jesus has sent me. Even if a storm arises, I am secure because I am in His will.

I DECLARE: I will not be afraid. Jesus is with me in my storm, and His first word to me is always, “Take courage!”

I DECLARE: I have the faith to step out of my boat of comfort. I am called to walk on the water of impossible situations, keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus.

I DECLARE: My focus is on the Savior, not the storm. I refuse to be overwhelmed by the boisterous winds and waves of my circumstances.
