BASIC SCRIPTURES FOR TODAY: 6TH SEPTEMBER 2025

1 SAMUEL 17:40-47 (NKJV)

40 Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.
41 So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him.
42 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.
43 So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”
45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

MATTHEW 14:28-30 (NKJV)

28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

CONTEMPLATION: THE DUAL DYNAMICS OF FAITH

Today’s scriptures present two powerful, complementary pictures of faith: Conquering Faith and Crying Faith.

David exemplifies Conquering Faith. He faces a giant not with conventional weapons but with confidence in the name of the Lord. His faith is proactive, declarative, and rooted in the character of God. He understands a fundamental truth: “the battle is the Lord’s” (1 Sam. 17:47). His faith doesn’t ignore the giant; it simply sees God as bigger. He moves forward in obedience, declaring victory before the battle is even over.

Peter exemplifies Crying Faith. He steps out in boldness but is quickly overwhelmed by the storm. His faith wavers, fear sets in, and he begins to sink. Yet, in his moment of failure, he does the most important thing: he cries out to Jesus, “Lord, save me!” (Matt. 14:30). This is not a faith of triumphant declaration, but a faith of desperate dependence. It is a faith that, even when failing, knows exactly where to look for help.

Together, they show us the full spectrum: There are moments for David-like courage to advance and declare God’s victory. And there are moments for Peter-like honesty to cry out when we’re sinking. Both require focusing on God, not the problem. One focuses on God’s power to conquer; the other focuses on God’s mercy to save.

PRAYER POINTS FOR 6TH SEPTEMBER 2025

  1. Prayer for Divine Preparation: Lord, like David, teach me to prepare for my battles with the “smooth stones” of prayer, Your Word, and past testimonies. Help me to use what is in my hand for Your glory (1 Sam. 17:40).

  2. Prayer for Identity in Christ: When the enemy and the world disdain me and make me feel small, remind me that my identity is not in my appearance or stature, but in being Your anointed child (1 Sam. 17:42).

  3. Prayer for Authority in Battle: I come against every “Goliath” in my life—fear, lack, sickness, addiction—not in my own power, but in the mighty name of the Lord of Hosts. I declare the battle is Yours! (1 Sam. 17:45, 47).

  4. Prayer for a Testimony Mindset: Father, help me to face challenges with the confidence that the outcome will serve as a testimony so “that all the earth may know that there is a God” (1 Sam. 17:46).

  5. Prayer for Bold Obedience: Give me the courage of Peter to step out of the boat when You command me to “Come.” Help me to obey even when it means walking into impossibility (Matt. 14:29).

  6. Prayer for Focus: Holy Spirit, help me to keep my eyes locked on Jesus. The moment I look at the boisterous winds of my circumstances, I feel myself sink. Grant me laser focus on You alone (Matt. 14:30).

  7. Prayer for Honest Cries: Lord, remove any pride that would keep me from crying out when I’m sinking. Thank You that I can immediately and honestly cry, “Lord, save me!” and know that You will hear (Matt. 14:30).

  8. Prayer Against the Spirit of Fear: I bind the spirit of fear that causes my faith to waver. Your perfect love casts out all fear. Let courage arise in my heart today (Matt. 14:30).

  9. Prayer for the Right Perspective: Help me to see my battles through Your lens. Let me see the Goliaths in my life as defeated foes and the storms as platforms for Your glory.

  10. Prayer for a Rescuing God: I thank You that You are not a distant God but a present Savior. I worship You for Your immediate response to my cry for help.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
