Basic Scripture for Today August 30th 2025

LUKE 10:1-19 (NKJV)

1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.
2 Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.
3 Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road.
5 But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you.
7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.
8 Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.
9 And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
10 But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,
11 ‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’
12 But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.
13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
15 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades.
16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

In-Depth Reflection: The Ministry of the Sent One

This Friday’s passage is a masterclass on discipleship and spiritual warfare. Jesus does not just send out the twelve apostles; He commissions a broader group of seventy (or seventy-two) followers, indicating that this empowering is for all believers, not just a select few. The instructions and the outcome provide a powerful blueprint for our ministry today:

  1. The Urgency of the Harvest (v.2): Jesus frames the mission with a sense of urgency and divine need. The harvest of souls is ready, but it requires laborers. Our first assignment is not action, but prayer—to ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers, recognizing that the mission begins on our knees.

  2. The Vulnerability of the Laborer (v.3-4): They are sent as “lambs among wolves,” stripped of self-sufficiency (no money bag, no extra provisions). This forces total dependence on God and demonstrates that the power of the mission is not in their resources but in His provision.

  3. The Protocol of the Mission (v.5-9): They are to lead with a blessing (“Peace to this house”), accept hospitality, and minister to needs (healing the sick). Their message is simple and powerful: “The kingdom of God has come near to you.” Their actions validated their words.

  4. The Authority of the Messenger (v.16, 19): This is the core of the passage. Jesus delegates His own authority to them. To receive them is to receive Him. He then gives them tangible, supernatural authority over all the power of the enemy, a authority we still possess today in His name.

  5. The Victory of the Report (v.17-18): The seventy return awestruck by the authority they walked in. Jesus’ response is profound: “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” Their faithful steps on earth triggered a cataclysmic defeat in the heavenly realms.

Prayer Points

  1. Prayer for Laborers in the Harvest:
“Lord of the Harvest, I answer Your call to pray. I ask You to stir the hearts of believers across the earth. Send out consecrated, bold, and empowered laborers into the great harvest of souls. Use me, Lord, as one of those laborers in my family, workplace, and city.”

  2. Prayer for Dependent Faith:
“Father, strip me of all self-reliance. Teach me to walk in the vulnerability of a lamb, trusting wholly in Your provision and protection. I let go of my own ‘money bag’ of resources and put my complete trust in You for this mission.”

  3. Prayer for a Ministry of Power and Peace:
“Wherever I enter today, let my first declaration be peace. Use me as an instrument of healing—spiritually, emotionally, and physically—so that others may tangibly know that the kingdom of God has come near to them.”

  4. Prayer to Walk in Delegated Authority:
“In the mighty name of Jesus, I take up the authority You have given me. I declare that demons are subject to me. I have power to trample on serpents and scorpions (all the enemy’s schemes and poisons) and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing he brings shall harm me.”

  5. Prayer for Discernment and Focus:
“Grant me the discernment to know where to stay and invest my time, and the courage to shake the dust off places that reject Your peace. Keep me focused on the mission, not distracted by the roadsides of offense or rejection.”

Declarations

  1. I declare that I am a chosen laborer, sent by Jesus into the great harvest. My prayers are mobilizing heaven’s workforce.

  2. I declare that I walk in divine provision and protection. I am a lamb among wolves, but my Shepherd is with me. I lack no good thing.

  3. I declare that the peace of God rests upon my household and radiates from my life, reconciling men to God.

  4. I declare that in the name of Jesus, I have authority over all the power of the enemy. Demons flee at my command, sicknesses bow, and every demonic assignment against me is cancelled. Nothing shall by any means hurt me!

  5. I declare that through my faithful footsteps and proclamation of the Gospel, I am causing Satan to fall like lightning. I am an agent of heavenly victory on earth.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.

Today’s Prophetic Word: You have been appointed and sent. The authority you carry is not theoretical; it is operational. This Friday, step out with the confidence of the seventy. Your simple acts of obedience—speaking peace, praying for the sick—are triggering a collapse in the enemy’s camp. Do not underestimate your assignment. You are walking proof that the Kingdom of God has come near.
