BASIC SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 32:1-8

1 Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,
and princes will rule in justice.
2 Each will be like a hiding place from the wind,
a shelter from the storm,
like streams of water in a dry place,
like the shade of a great rock in a weary land.
3 Then the eyes of those who see will not be closed,
and the ears of those who hear will give attention.
4 The heart of the hasty will understand and know,
and the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak distinctly.
5 The fool will no more be called noble,
nor the scoundrel said to be honorable.
6 For the fool speaks folly,
and his heart is busy with iniquity,
to practice ungodliness,
to utter error concerning the Lord,
to leave the craving of the hungry unsatisfied,
and to deprive the thirsty of drink.
7 As for the scoundrel—his devices are evil;
he plans wicked schemes
to ruin the poor with lying words,
even when the plea of the needy is right.
8 But he who is noble plans noble things,
and on noble things he stands.”

Title: “After the Storm: Lessons from Isaiah 32:1-8”

Basic Scripture: Isaiah 32:1-8 (ESV):

Introduction:

The aftermath of the Second World War was a period of immense global transformation. The conflict had left behind a world scarred by destruction and loss, but it also brought forth opportunities for healing, rebuilding, and reimagining the future. Isaiah 32:1-8 offers profound insights that resonate with the post-World War II era and can serve as guiding principles for understanding this pivotal time in history.

1. A Reign of Righteousness (Isaiah 32:1):

  • After the horrors of war, the world longed for leadership characterized by righteousness and justice. In the aftermath of World War II, nations came together to establish institutions like the United Nations, aiming to promote peace and prevent future conflicts.

2. Shelter from the Storm (Isaiah 32:2):

  • The world sought refuge from the storms of war and instability. The post-war period saw the reconstruction of Europe through initiatives like the Marshall Plan, providing economic aid and stability to nations in need.

3. Restoration of Understanding (Isaiah 32:3-4):

  • The war had brought about divisions and misunderstandings. Post-war diplomacy and communication sought to rebuild bridges and foster understanding among nations.

4. Redefining Values (Isaiah 32:5-6):

  • After witnessing the devastation of the war, there was a collective desire to redefine what is truly noble and honorable. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, reflected a commitment to fundamental human dignity and rights.

5. Overcoming Evil (Isaiah 32:7-8):

  • The aftermath of World War II included efforts to bring war criminals to justice and to combat ideologies of hatred. The Nuremberg Trials and similar actions aimed to hold individuals accountable for their crimes.

HYMN FOR TODAY ‘S ODM ODM Manna 10 September 2023There’s not a friend…

, “There’s Not a Friend” is a beloved Christian hymn that has brought comfort and solace to countless individuals over the years. Here are the lyrics to this hymn:

Verse 1:

There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus,
No, not one! No, not one!
None else could heal all our soul's diseases,
No, not one! No, not one!

Chorus:

Jesus knows all about our struggles;
He will guide till the day is done.
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus;
No, not one! No, not one!

Verse 2:

No friend like Him is so high and holy,
No, not one! No, not one!
And yet no friend is so meek and lowly,
No, not one! No, not one!

Chorus:

Jesus knows all about our struggles;
He will guide till the day is done.
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus;
No, not one! No, not one!

Verse 3:

There's not an hour that He is not near us,
No, not one! No, not one!
No night so dark but His love can cheer us,
No, not one! No, not one!

Chorus:

Jesus knows all about our struggles;
He will guide till the day is done.
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus;
No, not one! No, not one!

Verse 4:

Did ever saint find this friend forsake Him?
No, not one! No, not one!
Or sinner find that He would not take him?
No, not one! No, not one!

Chorus:

Jesus knows all about our struggles;
He will guide till the day is done.
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus;
No, not one! No, not one!

It underscores the idea that no one can understand and care for us like Jesus, and His presence is a source of comfort and guidance through all of life’s struggles and challenges. It is often sung as an affirmation of faith and a reminder of the unchanging love and companionship of Jesus.

The period after the Second World War was a time of rebuilding, reconciliation, and reimagining a better future.
