BASIC SCRIPTURE: READING FOR TODAY March 24TH 2024
BASIC SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 5: 40-48
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 5:40-48 (NIV): 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Encouragement for the Day: In these verses, Jesus challenges us to love unconditionally, even in the face of adversity. It’s natural to love those who love us in return, but Jesus calls us to a higher standard—to love our enemies and pray for those who mistreat us. This radical love reflects the character of our Heavenly Father, who shows kindness to all, regardless of their actions or beliefs. As you navigate your day, seek opportunities to extend love and grace to everyone you encounter, even those who may oppose or misunderstand you. In doing so, you reflect the perfect love of God and fulfill the calling to be children of your Father in heaven.
