BASIC SCRIPTURE: REVELATION 3:14-22
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

[Revelation 3:14-22 (NIV)] “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
This scripture from the Book of Revelation focuses on the message to the church in Laodicea. It’s a powerful call for spiritual reflection and revival, emphasizing the dangers of spiritual complacency and lukewarmness.
In this passage, Jesus addresses the lukewarm nature of the church, expressing a desire for them to be fervently committed to Him rather than being indifferent. The imagery of being “lukewarm” symbolizes a lack of passion or dedication in their faith.
Jesus lovingly urges them to recognize their spiritual poverty despite their material wealth and encourages them to seek true riches from Him—faith refined by trials, spiritual clothing to cover their nakedness, and the ability to see their spiritual state clearly.
He invites them to repentance and offers the promise of intimate fellowship and reward for those who overcome spiritual complacency.
This scripture serves as a reminder for believers to examine their spiritual fervor, to earnestly seek a deeper relationship with Christ, and to heed His call for repentance and renewal.
It encourages believers to open their hearts to Christ’s knocking and be receptive to His call for transformation and restoration, promising the reward of fellowship and closeness with Him to those who respond.
Feel free to meditate on this scripture, seeking personal application and insights for your spiritual journey.
