BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 KINGS 19: 1-18

Basic Scripture: 1 Kings 19:1-18 (KJV)

1 Kings 19:1-18 recounts the story of Elijah’s flight from Jezebel and his encounter with God on Mount Horeb. This passage highlights the themes of fear, despair, divine encounter, encouragement, and renewed purpose.

1 Kings 19:1-18 (KJV)

  1. And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
  2. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
  3. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
  4. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
  5. And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
  6. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
  7. And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
  8. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
  9. And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
  10. And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
  11. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
  12. And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
  13. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
  14. And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
  15. And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
  16. And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
  17. And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
  18. Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

This passage emphasizes the importance of listening for God’s voice, even in moments of despair and fear. It also shows God’s provision, care, and purpose for His servants, even when they feel alone and defeated.

Prayers and Declarations Based on 1 Kings 19:1-18

Prayer Points:

  1. Prayer for Strength in Times of Fear
Heavenly Father, I ask for Your divine strength to overcome any fear that comes my way. Just as You strengthened Elijah when he fled from Jezebel, please strengthen me in my moments of fear and uncertainty. Empower me with courage and boldness to stand firm, knowing that You are with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  2. Prayer for Rest and Refreshment
Lord, just as You sent an angel to provide food and water to Elijah, I pray that You provide me with spiritual and physical nourishment. Refresh my spirit and renew my strength, that I may continue on the journey You have set before me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  3. Prayer for Divine Encounter
O God, just as You spoke to Elijah on Mount Horeb in a still, small voice, I ask for a divine encounter with You. Open my ears to hear Your voice and my heart to receive Your guidance. Speak to me clearly, Lord, and let me not miss Your presence in the midst of life’s challenges. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  4. Prayer for Purpose and Direction
Father, I pray for clarity of purpose and direction in my life. Just as You gave Elijah a new mission and purpose, guide me in fulfilling the calling You have placed on my life. Help me to walk in obedience and to trust in Your perfect plan for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  5. Prayer for Divine Provision
Lord, I thank You for Your provision in every season of my life. Just as You provided for Elijah in the wilderness, I trust that You will meet all my needs according to Your riches in glory. Help me to rely on You and not be anxious about anything. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  6. Prayer for Discernment and Guidance
O Lord, grant me discernment to recognize Your voice amidst all the noise around me. Teach me to distinguish Your still, small voice and to follow Your guidance in all areas of my life. Lead me on the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  7. Prayer for Faithfulness
Father, help me to remain faithful to You, even when I feel alone or discouraged. Just as You assured Elijah that there were still seven thousand who had not bowed to Baal, remind me that I am not alone in this journey of faith. Strengthen my resolve to remain steadfast in my commitment to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  8. Prayer for Courage to Face Challenges
Lord, grant me the courage to face the challenges ahead, just as Elijah did. Help me to trust in Your power and to know that with You, all things are possible. Let Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard my heart and mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  9. Prayer for Protection from Harm
Almighty God, protect me from all harm and danger, just as You protected Elijah from Jezebel’s threats. Surround me with Your divine protection, and let no weapon formed against me prosper. Cover me with Your precious blood, and keep me safe from all evil. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  10. Prayer for Revival and Renewal
Lord, I pray for spiritual revival and renewal in my life. Just as You revived Elijah’s spirit when he was weary, renew my spirit today. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and ignite a fresh fire within me to serve You with zeal and passion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
