BASIC SCRIPTURES: GENESIS 8: 21-22; GALATIANS 6: 1-8

Title: “Why the Law of Sowing and Reaping Is a Hard Nut to Crack”

Basic Scriptures: Genesis 8:21-22; Galatians 6:1-8

Introduction:

The law of sowing and reaping is a fundamental principle found throughout the Bible. It’s often summarized as “you reap what you sow,” emphasizing the consequences of our actions and choices. This law is deeply woven into the fabric of life, affecting not only our physical world but also our spiritual and moral realms.

Genesis 8:21-22 (NIV):

21 The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

22 As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Galatians 6:7-8 (NIV):

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Finish reading: Manna Devotional 11 September 2023 – WHY THE LAW OF SOWING AND REAPING IS A HARD NUT TO CRACK!

Why Is It a Hard Nut to Crack?

  1. Human Nature (Genesis 8:21): The law of sowing and reaping is challenging because it addresses the core of human nature. Genesis 8:21 acknowledges that the human heart tends to incline toward evil from childhood. Our innate tendencies can make it difficult to consistently sow good seeds.
  2. Consequences (Galatians 6:7): This law is challenging because it highlights the inescapable reality of consequences. What we sow, we will inevitably reap. If we sow negativity, selfishness, or sin, we will reap the corresponding consequences.
  3. Discipline and Patience (Galatians 6:9): Sowing and reaping require discipline and patience. Just as a farmer must patiently wait for the harvest, we must patiently wait for the outcomes of our actions. This can be difficult in a world that often values immediate results.
  4. Spiritual Battle (Galatians 6:8): The law of sowing and reaping is a spiritual battle. It reminds us that our choices have eternal implications. Sowing to please the flesh leads to destruction, while sowing to please the Spirit leads to eternal life. The battle between our earthly desires and spiritual aspirations can be challenging.

Prayer Points:

  1. Self-Examination: Pray for self-examination and the wisdom to recognize the seeds you are sowing in your life—both in your actions and attitudes.
  2. Discipline and Patience: Ask God for the discipline and patience to consistently sow seeds that please the Spirit, even when it seems difficult or unrewarding in the short term.
  3. Spiritual Warfare: Pray for spiritual strength to overcome the temptations of the flesh and to sow seeds that lead to eternal life.
  4. Harvest of Blessings: Thank God for His promise that as long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest will never cease. Pray for a bountiful harvest of blessings in your life and the lives of others.

Conclusion:

While the law of sowing and reaping may be a hard nut to crack, it also holds the promise of a rich and abundant harvest when we sow seeds of righteousness, love, and obedience to God’s Word. Let us be mindful of the seeds we sow each day and seek to align our actions with God’s will, trusting in His faithfulness to bring about a fruitful harvest in His time.
