Crossover Night Sermon: Stepping into the New Year with Faith, Gratitude, and Purpose
Text: Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV)
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Introduction
Beloved in Christ, tonight we gather on the brink of a significant transition—the end of one year and the dawn of another. As we reflect on the journey of the year gone by, we must pause to express profound gratitude for God’s faithfulness, mercy, and abundant grace. Each one of us has a story of challenges overcome, victories won, and lessons learned.
As we cross over into a new year, it is a time of renewal—renewal of our faith, our commitments, and our expectations. Let us look to the future with hope, anchored in God’s promises and guided by His Word.

Part 1: Reflecting on the Journey of the Year So Far
1. The Sovereignty of God in Our Lives
This year may have been filled with highs and lows, but through it all, God has been sovereign.
- For some, it was a year of new opportunities, promotions, or academic success.
- For others, it may have been a season of trials and uncertainties. Yet, Romans 8:28 reminds us that “all things work together for good to them that love God.”
2. Gratitude for God’s Faithfulness
Psalm 103:2 admonishes us, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” As we look back, we must be intentional in thanksgiving:
- For Life: We are alive and well to witness this moment.
- For Provision: Despite economic uncertainties, God has sustained us.
- For Protection: We have been preserved from dangers seen and unseen.
Part 2: Entering the New Year with Gratitude
Gratitude is the bridge between our past and future. As we thank God for His faithfulness in the past, we unlock His blessings for the year ahead.
Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
- Thank God for your family, friends, and community.
- Thank Him for your health, strength, and opportunities.
- Thank Him for His Word, which has guided and comforted you throughout the year.
