It was Moliere who said, “The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.” Very true! You may have also heard that delay is not denial, but have you heard that delay denies mediocrity? Yes, it does. Delay prunes off inadequacies and imperfections. James 1:4 says “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” Listen: An elephant carries its offspring in the womb for about two years while a dog carries hers for about 3 months only. That is more than 30 months difference. But we know that the difference in strength and power of an elephant from that of a dog is incomparable! Now imagine the dog mocking the elephant for the delayed pregnancy! Oh, what ignorant stupidity that dog would be exhibiting! She forgets that the elephant is not carrying a puppy. She is carrying the largest land animal! Roy T. Bennett quotes, “Great things take time, so be patient.” Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) says, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Hallelujah! When they mock you that you are yet to get married, or that you are still to have children or that you are yet to get a job and so on, tell them, “I am not carrying a puppy.” Let the dogs laugh; when your elephant hits the earth, they will see it even from afar!
