Message
David Kim (1935-2022) lived in South Korea. He was a former atheist, but he encountered the story of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross through a series of events that challenged his atheistic beliefs. As he searched deeper to fully understand the unfathomable dimensions of Christ’s sacrifice at Calvary, David realised the profound depth and impact of Christ’s sacrificial love as the ultimate expression of God’s grace and mercy. This revelation transformed his life and inspired him to become a missionary, sharing the message of Christ’s sacrificial love with others in his community.
Over the years, there had been similar stories of the impact of the knowledge of Christ’s sacrifice at Calvary on men and women, young and old, who now sincerely believed in Him as the only Saviour of the world. We learn from this Scripture as it unveils a deep and sober reflection on the significance of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ, compared to the Old Testament sacrificial system. It introduces Christ as the High Priest who has come to bring about the “good things to come.” It emphasises the superiority of Jesus’ sacrifice compared to the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament. The supreme price that our Lord Jesus paid with His precious blood for our salvation is presented as permanent, providing “eternal redemption” and benchmarking a new covenant with God.
More importantly, Christ’s sacrifice offers eternal redemption and purification of our conscience, liberating us from guilt and condemnation. We are thus transformed and empowered with grace to serve the living God. Therefore, nobody has any excuse to remain in the Old Testament’s ritual practices and moral weakness.
We can step out in faith today and embrace this new and living way. This new life provides eternal life that continually gives us joy, total and complete redemption, and freedom from every form of impurity so that we can serve the true and living God.
Thought for the day
Christ’s supreme sacrifice is sufficient for us.
