TOPIC: SHE KEPT A SHOEBOX THAT SAVED HER MARRIAGE

An old couple had shared everything throughout their over 50 years of marriage, except for a shoebox the wife kept in her closet, which she asked her husband never to open. After many years, when the wife became terminally ill, the husband brought the shoebox to her bedside. She finally agreed to reveal its contents, and inside were two crocheted dolls (Crocheted dolls are made by making a cloth or clothing by weaving wool or other thread into joined rows using a single needle with a hook) and $95,000. When he asked about the dolls, she explained that her grandmother had advised her to crochet (weave) a doll whenever she got angry with her husband rather than argue. The husband was touched that she had only made two dolls in all their years together, then asked about the money. She smiled and told him it came from selling the dolls. Wow! 95,000 dollars worth of dolls that are between 5 dollars and 20 dollars each! Now do the match. That is an astounding number of times that the man had upset that woman. But guess what, the marriage still lasted their lifetime. Every time there is news of another divorce, I say to myself, “another couple that does not crochet dolls.” Verses 21 and 22 of today’s scripture say, “Then Peter came to Him and said, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” Friedrich Nietzsche quotes, “It is not a lack of love, but a lack of forgiveness, that makes unhappy marriages.” In 2025, forgive someone in church, in marriage or in life! Start today!
