It was Ricardo Sanchez who penned, “The devil knows your name but calls you by your sin. God knows your sin but calls you by your name.” The devil is an expert at identity twisting! Yes! IDENTITY TWISTER! He will never call you “child of God” or “redeemed.” No! He whispers, “Liar.” “Addict.” “Failure.” “Sick man/woman,” “divorcee,” etc. Oh, but God does the opposite! Even when Adam sinned, God still called out, “Adam, where are you?”(Genesis 3:9). He didn’t say “Hey, you disobedient man; you failure!” He said, “Adam.” Because God doesn’t cancel people, He calls them. Instead of cancelling people, God decided to cancel SIN! Look at Peter. After denying Jesus three times, he probably expected the Lord to call him a coward. But in John 21:17, Jesus called him “Simon, son of Jonah,” and gave him an assignment: “Feed My sheep.” That’s what grace sounds like! Jesus didn’t remind Peter of his sin, He reminded him of his name and his purpose! Wow! Oh! Just start dancing now! Hear me: The devil will always shout your past, but God always speaks your future. The enemy calls you by your lowest moment, but God calls you by your highest potential. Don’t confuse conviction with condemnation! The Holy Spirit convicts to bring you back, the enemy condemns to keep you down. So next time shame comes knocking, answer it with Romans 8:1: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” You are not what you did. You are who God says you are. Don’t let the voice of your past drown out the voice of your Father! He still calls you by name. Will you answer? Lift your hands and start praising Him now!
