TOPIC: WHAT DO YOU SAY TO YOURSELF?
The great Plato said: “Thinking is the talking of the soul to itself.” I once noticed a man around a popular bus-stop in Lagos, Nigeria deeply engrossed in talking to himself and writing with his fingers in the air! I immediately classified him as “MAD,” even though he was neatly dressed with a topcoat. What he said I don’t know, but he was having a very serious discussion with himself and obviously enjoying it. Another man was also once asked why he always talked to himself. He replied: “I have just two reasons. First, I like to hear a smart man talk. And secondly, I like to talk to a smart man.” LAUGHS! Oh! What a proud man he was! Listen child of God, it is good to tell yourself the hard truth about issues sometimes! The Amplified Bible, Classic edition (AMPC)states concerning the rich man (vs. 17 of today’s scripture): “he considered and debated within himself.” Yes, our thoughts are like internal debates! As a man thinketh, so is he! The rich man talked boastfully to himself about his riches and God named him, “Mr. Fool.” The prodigal son in Luke 15:17 talked to himself – about his poverty and foolish decision to leave home. And he returned to his father! Even when you don’t mutter words, we all talk to ourselves daily. Your thoughts are the unspoken words, which reveal what is in your heart! As you go out today/ daily, watch what you say to yourself (your thoughts) and reject lustful, immoral, depressing, discouraging, angry, bitter or any thought that does not fire you to a great future! Speak God’s Word to yourself! Think big thoughts! Reject depression and self-pity! Think about your goals positively! Scold yourself if you must, but never crucify yourself! God is working to bring you to the place of His promise! Dwell on thoughts upon the grandest, and the grandest you shall see! Fix your mind upon the highest and the highest you shall be!
