During World War II, many churches were kept open 24 hours a day, so people could come and pray for loved ones who were in the battlefront! A caretaker in one of those churches noticed a boy who came in every day for about 15 minutes. After several weeks, the youngster came in one day and stayed on his knees much longer. The concerned caretaker spoke to him and asked why he was there so long! He replied: “Each day, I come here for a few minutes to ask God to bring my father home safely. This morning He did, so I hurried over here to thank God for answering my prayers!” Wow! No wonder Charles Spurgeon, a renowned preacher and theologian, quipped: “Praise is the rehearsal of our eternal song. By grace, we learn to sing, and in glory, we continue to sing.” In this 2nd half of 2025 and no matter how the year has been, you can be tempted to forget that thanksgiving adds divine colour to your life, family and ministry! If you genuinely give thanks despite all the challenges you go through, you will be a sweatless mountain shaker and mountain mover because Jehovah God dwells in your praise! Until you give thanks for the little bread and fish (the ‘little’ mercies) you have seen this year so far, you may never see the hand of God increase you (John 6:11). Praise is God’s secret for changing a man’s position! Praise raised Lazarus after a serious delay (See John 11: 41-43). Stop crying, comparing yourself to others or getting depressed! Praise will accelerate that delayed expectation! Whatever is in the grave will not come out except you give thanks! Set a time to thank God with your family because nothing can ever decrease in the hands of a thanksgiver(John 6:11). To take God for granted, is to be grounded! Be wise! You cannot appreciate (increase value) till you appreciate (show gratitude)! Be thankful!
