Persistence paid off for American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh, who discovered the planet Pluto. After astronomers calculated a probable orbit for this “suspected” heavenly body, Tombaugh took up the search in March 1929. He examined scores of telescopic photographs each showing tens of thousands of star images in pairs under the dual microscope. Star by star, he examined 20 million images! Then on February 18th, 1930, as he was blinking at a pair of photographs in the constellation Gemini, he suddenly came upon the image of Pluto. It was the most dramatic astronomic discovery in nearly 100 years! Indeed, there is a price to be paid for every breakthrough! These include, focus, doggedness, faithfulness, persistence and humility. Successful achievers always go the extra mile! By His grace, I put in about eighteen hours of hard work each day! This is 4.24am and I am still on my desk! I have done this for 25 years plus! Today’s scripture talks about PERSISTENCE and never quitting! Ah! Hear Hal Borland: “Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience. Knowing grass, I can appreciate persistence!” Did you get that? “Marry” patience, perspiration and persistence this year!
