A story surfaced on the social media about a computer science student and his lecturer. The student was brilliant and hardworking, bearing in mind that he came from a poor background and his parents struggled to send him to school. He had a vision in his heart; a vision to graduate with a FIRST CLASS degree! He had good grades and was heading towards achieving his aim until he got to his final year when he met a lecturer who put, “spanners” (OBSTACLES) on his way! The lecturer in one of his classes gave a postulation (a suggestion or assumption) which the student did not think was correct. The student tried to correct the postulation but this made the lecturer very angry! He felt insulted by the action of the student and decided that this student would never come out of school as a First Class graduate. Although the student tried his best, he came out with a SECOND CLASS UPPER DIVISION. Not too bad, you will say. The next step in his life was the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) which all fresh graduates below the age of 30 years must undergo in my country, Nigeria. The depressed student went to collect his call-up letter and behold he was posted to Kebbi State, one of the educationally less developed states in the country. On his way out of the school, he met the lecturer who said to him, “I heard about your posting. It doesn’t cost much to give details to someone in NYSC; I want to see how your computer knowledge will be useful in a state where you can count the number of computers; you felt you knew something. I will see how you will make it in this profession. Best of luck”… As we continue this story tomorrow, never forget today’s scripture, Verse 11, “…for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” No matter how gloomy the situation may look now, something great will come out of it! Pray now!
