It is a dangerous thing to think you can manipulate God by making vows you know you will not keep! I am being told by my Father God that 26, 340 users of this ODM devotional today, are in this group! There are vows you made and you have not fulfilled! God does not respond to empty promises, material tricks or religious transactions; He responds to faith and mercy. If you have ever said, “God, if You do this, I will do that,” and you never kept your word, repent today! You are playing with fire! Look at Jephthah (today’s scripture). The Bible says, “Then Jephthah made a vow to the LORD: ‘If You give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me… I will sacrifice it.” (Judges 11:30–31). That vow was not worship! It was not wisdom! It was a “spiritual transaction,” and it ended in tragedy because it was his daughter that came out to greet him. And just like that, Jephthah’s vow became his misery! That’s what happens when you try to provoke God’s hand by a vow! Listen: VOWS ARE TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY GOD! You get what you asked for, but you might lose what you love. See Numbers 30:3 (ESV), “If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.” Remember Hannah’s vow in 1 Samuel 1:11 – “…and no razor shall touch his head.” That was exactly what she did. I hear loudly right now: BARRIERS TO TESTIMONIES OF MY PEOPLE – BROKEN VOWS! WOW! The Holy Spirit is reminding you of those deals you whispered in fear: “Lord, heal me and I’ll serve You.” “Give me that job and I’ll double my tithe.” “Fix my marriage and I’ll never miss church again.” Stop it! Fulfill any vow you have ever made (Deuteronomy 23:21) and ask for mercy! Do not let your words become your chains! I see a new beginning and I see MERCY RAIN! Pray seriously now!
