An old man met a young man who asked, “Do you remember me?” The old man replied “NO,” and the young man explained that he was once his student. He went further to say that he had turned out well because of the teacher. He recounted a time he stole a watch from a classmate. While searching for the stolen watch, the teacher told the class to line up and close their eyes. The teacher found it in the young man’s pocket but didn’t reveal who stole it! The young man explained that this act saved his dignity and shaped his decision to be better. The old teacher responded, “I remember the situation, but didn’t recognize you because while everyone closed their eyes, I also closed my eyes.” Ha! He closed his eyes so that even if he was tempted to embarrass the child, he couldn’t identify him. Hear Galatians 6:1 – “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.” No wonder Jim Masser penned, “It is not what you teach, but how you teach it that leaves a lasting impression.” Yes! Always remember that Jesus chose to die for us rather than judge us; He chose empathy over judgment. In this 2nd half of the year, take this as a new lifestyle change on how to relate to others – even in their TRANSGRESSIONS/WEAKNESSES! Compassion will cure more sins than condemnation! Close with Mother Teresa – “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” Yes! None of us is perfect! Your strength might be my weakness and vice versa!
