In June 2021, in the State of Missouri, United States of America, a 47-year-old Lebanese accountant was sentenced to 188 months (over 15 years) in federal prison and ordered to pay more than 8.8 million dollars as restitution to his victims across the country.

What was his offence? The one-time certified public accountant was found guilty of conducting a Ponzi scheme in which he swindled millions of dollars from dozens of his victims. In the scheme, the accountant intentionally fleeced several elderly persons out of most or all of their retirement savings.

What did he then do with all the money he made? He spent the money on a lavish lifestyle. He purchased a home worth a million dollars, bought expensive cars, motor homes, motor cycles and went on regular family vacation to Disney World. In 2019, a jury convicted him of 6 counts of wire fraud and 4 counts of money laundering before the final sentence in 2021.
Prosecutors also provided evidence that while the trial was still on, the man continued to swindle money from people. He defrauded one victim of nearly a hundred thousand dollars and took 800,000 dollars from another victim’s account without consent.

There are several lessons to take from here in today’s devotional: Do not envy people who live large and lavishly when their sources of income appear questionable! Your own unstoppable season shall come!
Trust God! Secondly, never live in falsehood; do not live in denial. Thirdly, do not live beyond your means in this year 2023; just be yourself!

In today’s 1st scripture(Vs.2), Apostle Paul makes a great appeal to us not to be conformed to this world, and in addition he urged that no one should think himself more highly than he is, rather think soberly.
Ecclesiastes 7:1 says, “A good name is better than precious ointment.” Never allow the “beautiful things” of this world to push you into living in falsehood. Live who and what you are! Be yourself!
