Canadian actor, Steven Graham, said “Excuses are the tools with which persons with no purpose in view build for themselves great monuments of nothing.” Champions stand out in life for their willingness toTAKE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHATEVER BREAKTHROUGH GOD HAS PROMISEDTHEM. They don’t settle for less. Their focus is not on the things that they lack. Rather, they focus on whatever God has blessed them with and find ways to make the best use of such things. They are the ones who are well positioned to see and seize opportunities when they come. When you are excuse-minded, it will become almost difficult for you to receive your breakthrough and victory from God. Just think about Zacchaeus and Bartimaeus. These men had every reason to give up on themselves and settle for less. They were society’s worst outcasts. Zacchaeus was a tax collector and in those days, Jews regarded tax collectors as enemies of God’s people. If there was a list of people who couldn’t see Jesus, the King of the Jews, Zacchaeus should have been number one on that list. However, he didn’t condemn himself. He didn’t make excuses. He went out to seek for Jesus. And before he could find Jesus, Jesus found him. Bartimaeus was unloved and rejected. As Jesus was passing by his begging spot, he shouted for mercy and help. Rather than call Jesus’ attention to his plight, people silenced him. They told him to shut up. But, he didn’t give up. The more the people silenced him, the louder he shouted. He refused to make excuses for his plight. People who make excuses never achieve any significant thing in life. Ants stand out among all insects because they don’t make excuses. Whatever the weather says, they have to move out and source for food. That is why they never suffer famine. Remember these words, penned by Don Wilder and Bill Rechin, “Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure.” May excuses not swallow you this year!
