TOPIC: THE “IF ONLY” DISEASE! THERE IS ALWAYS A NEXT TIME!

Norman Peale told the story of how a famous writer came to him and thought he was a terrible failure. The writer kept saying, “If only I had not done this, if only I had done that, if only I had not made that stupid mistake” and so on and so forth. He said he sent him into a room in his office where tapes on patients who had been cured of the “If only” disease and excuses, were played to him. The tape said, “If only” is one of the most hopeless and helpless diseases known to man and the cure requires an exercise of ‘using your imagination.’ You will have to shut out these words, “If only” from your consciousness, then you will have to replace them with 2 new dynamic, hopeful, optimistic, and positive words: “Next time.” The young writer by faith obeyed, and changed “If only” to “Next time” and he became a brand new determined person, knowing that regretting over the past, blocks your way into the future. Probably you are like this young discouraged man. Remember that Moses failed for 40 years when he ran away into exile. When he sat by a well side in Midian (vs.15 today’s scripture), he may have been saying: “If only I did not have compassion for the Jews; “If only…” But God turned his failures around and today he is a pillar in the kingdom. Oh, receive this hot meat from my spirit man now: There is a ‘next time’ for you and your family! Refuse to dwell on past failures! Accept failure as a part of the learning process. Mistakes and failures mean you are growing and learning. You can’t beat experience. Even Jesus “failed” for three days in the grave. Yes, you too will rise again. Always remember that failure is delay, not defeat and there is no fool, like an old fool. Move on! This is your year and every RED SEA MUST DIVIDE in Jesus name!

PRAYER POINTS: Take Song 3: My hope is built…
- In your own words, pray over today’s word as led now.
- Ask for the grace to hold on and win over regrets in Jesus name.
Reject depression and self-pity. I look into my future. There is a next
time (Be a monthly partner!See page 29 today). - I am human and not above mistakes. The Blood of Jesus is speaking
for me and I will never sin against my God deliberately. Therefore I
stop any lie of the devil concerning my past in Jesus name. - Holy Ghost, invade my past and restore whatever I have lost. Regrets
and pain of past failures, loose me and go forever. - Holy Ghost, let my tomorrow be greater than my past in Jesus name.
🎵 HYMN: “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” (Edward Mote, 1834)
1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand—
All other ground is sinking sand!
2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
3. His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
