They easily become frustrated and lapse into self-pity or self-comparism if someone else gets anything better than theirs, e.g, a new car, a new house, gets married before them, dedicates a new and bigger church building than theirs, or goes on T.V/radio, etc. So they spend most of their lives in daily competition with others! Never struggle to outshine anybody! Work daily to outshine yourself! You will be rewarded based on the assignment you were created to accomplish! Not on another man’s assignment! If it’s God’s will for you to sell fried bean cakes (called ‘Akara’ in Africa), you can become very prosperous with it! Never try to compete with others! Harold Taylor did say, “The root of true achievement lies in the will to become the best that you can become.” Compete with yourself! Elevate your personal standard of quality! Make a higher demand on yourself. To whatever you thought was good enough for you, add 15 %. Avoid the mistake of the disciples in today’s Basic Scripture! Conquer the spirit of competition! Never forget what John Wooden wrote: “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of being.” Winners do not compete with others, but themselves!
