Richard Wurmbrand, a Christian missionary to the Soviet Union, once shared a story about God’s unfailing power to protect and preserve those who trust in Him in spite of all danger and imminent harm. He heard about a Russian immigrant who was jubilating with the crowd that filled the Red Square in Moscow on the day that World War II ended in Europe. They were celebrating the victory when she saw a tall Air Force officer waving a piece of paper in his lifted hand, while an old woman made her way towards him. As she drew near, he went to embrace her, but she first knelt down, and in the presence of hundreds of people, she said, “Lord, my Saviour, thank you for bringing my son back alive and well. You gave him a guardian angel. Praise be to you, O Lord.” The son lifted her up and gave her the paper. She read it out loud: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. …a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you… for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. That was what his mother gave him as he was going for the war. She told him, “Read this page every day and God will save you”. He did not care about religion. He was a communist and he had heard that the Bible was full of superstitions, but out on the battleground, when it was very hard, he remembered his mother’s instruction and he read those words EVERYDAY. That was what saved his life. Put this Psalm in your heart and mouth today. The key to protection in times of danger and destruction this year is opening your mouth to declare that God is your refuge. Take note of what Verse two says, “I will say of the Lord…”What you say of the Lord in times of danger will go a long way in determining whether you will see His hand of deliverance or not. I pray that you will remain secure and untouched in the secret place of the Most High in 2024. Pray seriously now!
