A man in Guinea called his son in South Africa last year and said: “I hate to ruin your day but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.” “Dad, what are you talking about?” the son screamed. “We can’t stand the sight of each other any longer” the father said. “We’re sick of each other and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in USA and tell her.” Frantically, the son called his sister, who exploded on the phone, “Like hell they’re getting divorced?” she shouted. “I’ll take care of this.” She called home immediately and screamed at her father, “You are NOT getting divorced! Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back and we’ll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?”and hung up. The old man hung up his phone and turned to his wife: “I told you, it’s done! They are coming home for Christmas. Merry Christmas!” Oh! Smart old funny couple and tricks of bringing the children home! (LAUGH ALOUD NOW AS I AM DOING)! I remember it was Maya Angelou who roared: “I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t laugh.” Yes! Life is too short to be spent in fights, quarrels, hatred, depression or murmuring! No matter how the year has been, DETERMINE TO LAUGH BY FORCE! No wonder the Word says in Proverbs 17:22 – “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Listen to Bob Newhart: “Laughter gives us distance. It allows us to step back from an event, deal with it and then move on.” Close with Milton Berle: “Laughter is an instant vacation.” Oh, won’t you take a daily vacation? and clothed me with joy.” I reject every GARMENT OF
mourning NOW! Lord, MAKE ME TO LAUGH against all odds
