ODM TOPIC: THE BREAD BAKER AND THE HUNCHBACK

There is a story about a woman who baked bread for members of her family and an extra one for a hungry passerby. She would put that extra bread on the window slide, for whoever would take it away. Everyday, a hunchback came and took away the bread. As he went, he would mutter these words, “The evil you do remains with you; the good you do, comes back to you!” This went on day after day. Soon, the woman began to feel irritated; “Not a word of gratitude,” she would say to herself. “Who does he think he is. I’m just doing him a favour and all he does is mutter nonsense…” One day, out of anger, she added poison to the bread she had prepared for him! But as she was about to place it on the window slide, something pricked her in her heart and told her, “What is this that you’re doing?” She forgot today’s scripture, Verses 7 & 9 (See them). She immediately threw the bread into the fire, prepared another one and kept it on the window slide. As usual, the hunchback came, picked up the bread and muttered his usual words, “The evil you do, remains with you; the good you do, comes back to you!” That evening, there was a knock on the door of the woman and as she opened it, she was surprised to find her son standing in the doorway. Her son had gone to a distant place and she had heard nothing from him for many years. She had prayed day and night for his return. He had grown thin! His garments were torn and tattered and he looked hungry! He told his mum, “It’s a miracle that I’m here. While I was just a mile away, I was so hungry that I collapsed. I would have died, but just then, an old hunchback passed by. I begged him for a small part of his food, and he was kind enough to give me a whole bread.” As she heard those words, she grew weak and leaned against the door for support. She could have lost her son just like that! The devil almost robbed her of her harvest. Oh! The Holy Ghost is saying to you: “DON’T GROW WEARY IN WELL DOING FOR YOUR HARVEST TIME IS NEAR! Look to Me and hold on to Me!”
