BASIC SCRIPTURE 6th MARCH 2025 PRAYER & DECLARATION

BASIC SCRIPTURE: LUKE 15:11-24
📖 BASIC SCRIPTURE: LUKE 15:11-24 (KJV) 📖
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

Bible Passage: Luke 15:11-24 (NIV)
11 Then Jesus told them this parable:
12 “There was a man who had two sons. 13 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.
14 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 15 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 16 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 17 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
18 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 19 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 20 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’
21 “So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
22 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
23 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 24 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 25 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”
Key Themes and Lessons
- God’s Unconditional Love
- The father in the parable represents God, whose love is unwavering and unconditional. No matter how far we stray or what mistakes we make, God always welcomes us back with open arms.
- Repentance and Restoration
- The prodigal son’s decision to return home symbolizes repentance. His acknowledgment of sin (“I have sinned against heaven and against you”) highlights the importance of confessing our wrongdoings and seeking restoration.
- Forgiveness and Mercy
- The father did not wait for his son to arrive before extending grace. Instead, he ran to meet him, embracing him without hesitation. This shows the depth of God’s mercy and willingness to forgive.
- Worthiness vs. Grace
- The son felt unworthy to be called a son, but the father restored him fully, giving him the best robe, a ring, and sandals. This demonstrates that salvation and redemption are not based on merit but on God’s grace.
- Celebration of Redemption
- The father celebrated the son’s return, emphasizing the joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. God rejoices when we turn back to Him.
Reflection Questions
- Have you ever felt like the prodigal son—far from God, feeling unworthy, or struggling with guilt? How can this story encourage you?
- What does the father’s reaction teach us about God’s heart toward those who repent?
- How can you extend the same grace and mercy to others as God has shown to you?
This parable reminds us that no matter how far we wander, God is always ready to receive us with love and forgiveness. It encourages us to embrace our heavenly Father’s embrace and live in the freedom of His grace. Amen!
