BASIC SCRIPTURES: NUMBERS 23: 18-20:

18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:

19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

JEREMIAH 1:5-12

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

11 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

12 Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

Numbers 23:18-20 (NIV): Then he spoke his message: “Arise, Balak, and listen; hear me, son of Zippor. God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? I have received a command to bless; he has blessed, and I cannot change it.

In these verses, the prophet Balaam speaks to Balak, affirming that God is not like a human who changes his mind or fails to fulfill His promises. Balaam emphasizes that God’s decrees and blessings are unchangeable and immutable once spoken.

Jeremiah 1:5-12 (NIV): “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.

The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”

In Jeremiah’s call to prophethood, God assures Jeremiah of His divine plan and purpose for him even before his birth. Despite Jeremiah’s initial hesitations due to his youth and feelings of inadequacy, God reassures him, promising to be with him, guiding and empowering him to fulfill his prophetic mission. God touches Jeremiah’s mouth, symbolizing His divine commission and authority to speak on His behalf.

These passages showcase God’s sovereignty, faithfulness to His promises, and His ability to equip and commission individuals for His purposes, emphasizing that His plans are unchanging and His word will be fulfilled. They serve as powerful reminders of God’s call and provision for those He chooses to use for His divine purposes.
