BASIC SCRIPTURES: JAMES 4:8;

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.

REVELATION 3:10-16

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

DAILY BIBLE EXPLAINED

James 4:8 (NIV): “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

In this verse from the book of James, believers are encouraged to draw close to God through repentance and purification. The promise is that as we seek God, He draws near to us. The verse also highlights the importance of cleansing our hearts and turning away from a divided or double-minded approach, instead, seeking a sincere and wholehearted connection with God.

Revelation 3:10-16 (NIV): “Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth. I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

This passage is part of a message to the church in Philadelphia in the book of Revelation. It speaks about rewards for those who remain faithful and endure trials. It emphasizes the importance of perseverance and fidelity to God’s commands, promising protection during times of trial and eternal blessings for those who overcome.

Both of these passages encourage a deepening of our relationship with God, whether it’s through drawing near to Him with a sincere heart as in James 4:8 or persevering and remaining faithful in the face of trials, as mentioned in Revelation 3:10-16. They offer guidance on how believers can strengthen their faith and devotion to God.
