A 75-year-old woman moved from New Jersey to Columbia with her twin boys in the mid-1990s after she lost her husband. Then she was in her 50s. She needed help and a change of environment! The home she rented was part of a church campus which was bought over from another church. She joined the church and worked there for many years. Her work life spanned from working in the church’s school, serving in committees, cooking, setting up programmes, doing decorations and baby-sitting for members’ children, etc. All of that was for a period of about 25 years. Eventually in July 2021, she was evicted from the 2-bedroom apartment she had occupied for 25years. The president of the branch of the Columbia National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP), an inter-racial American organization created to work for the abolition of segregation and discrimination in housing, education, voting, employment and transportation, had this to say, “My personal stance: It’s an ungodly thing for anybody in the church to evict a 76-year-old lady and put her stuff in the streets. Not just her, but anybody. For them to put her out in the COVID season, I don’t know where God is in this matter.” A man who was homeless and was housed by the woman said, “It’s not very church-like.” WOW! In this year 2024, let the world see you and scream: “SHE/HE IS LIKE JESUS!” Let them say you are “CHURCH LIKE!” Psalm 85:10 says: “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” “Truth” represents the real circumstance on ground! But “MERCY” MUST PREVAIL to the lovable or the love-less around you no matter the circumstance on ground! And that is how RIGHTEOUSNESS and PEACE will KISS EACH OTHER THIS YEAR…(To be continued tomorrow…)
