Daily SCRIPTURES: LAMENTATIONS 3:20-33 for 28 September 2023
BASIC SCRIPTURES: LAMENTATIONS 3:20-33; JOB 5: 17
Lamentations 3:20-33 (KJV):
20 My soul hath them still in remembrance and is humbled in me.
21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence because he hath borne it upon him.
29 He putteth his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.
30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.
31 For the Lord will not cast off forever.
32 But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.
Job 5:17 (KJV):
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

Devotional for September 8, 2023:
In the book of Lamentations, we find the prophet Jeremiah reflecting on the trials and tribulations that he and the people of Israel faced. He expresses a deep sense of humility, recognizing the challenges they have endured. However, in the midst of their suffering, Jeremiah finds hope in the unchanging faithfulness and compassion of the Lord.
The passage reminds us that it is the Lord’s mercies and unwavering compassion that prevent us from being consumed by the difficulties of life. His compassions are new every morning, a fresh source of hope and strength for each day. The Lord is our portion, and in Him, we can place our hope and trust.
In Job 5:17, we are told, “Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.” This verse highlights the concept of divine correction and guidance. While the challenges and trials we face may be difficult, they are often a form of correction and refinement to mold us into better versions of ourselves.
As we navigate the ups and downs of life, we should not lose hope. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, and He is near to those who seek Him. There is a purpose in the trials we face, and even in moments of grief, the Lord has compassion. He does not afflict us willingly but out of love, with the intention of shaping us for greater purposes.
On this day, let us remember that the challenges we encounter are opportunities for growth and refinement. Just as Jeremiah found hope in the midst of suffering, and Job recognized the value of divine correction, we too can find solace and strength in knowing that the Lord’s compassions are ever new, and He guides us through every season of life. Embrace the challenges, trust in His unfailing compassion, and remember that His plans for you are filled with hope and a future.
