75-year-old woman moved from New Jersey to Columbia with her twin boys in the mid-1990s after she lost her husband. Then she was in her 50s. Because she needed help and a change of environment, she rented a home next to her brother who had lived there for many years. The home she moved into was part of a church campus which was bought over from another church.

She joined the church and worked there for many years. Some of it was voluntary, while others were for a pay. Her work life spanned from working in the church’s school, serving on committees, cooking, setting up programmes, doing decorations and baby-sitting for members’ children. All of that
was for a period of about 25 years. Within that period, she sometimes had challenges paying her rent.
Over the years as the city grew, rent in the
neighbourbood increased. Her income didn’t grow in proportion with the rent. Then suddenly, during that period, another pastor was posted to the church… As we continue tomorrow on the outcome of this woman’s life, the Holy Ghost wants you to know that nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care. James Barrie once wrote: “Always be a little kinder than necessary.” Jackson Brown opined: Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring and integrity, they
think of you.”
