BASIC SCRIPTURES: 1 SAMUEL 17: 32 – 37 JAMES 1: 1 – 4

33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

37 David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.

JAMES 1: 1 – 4

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:32-37 (NIV)

“32 David said to Saul, ‘Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.’

33 Saul replied, ‘You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.’

34 But David said to Saul, ‘Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.'”

Scripture: James 1:1-4 (NIV)

“1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings. 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Daily Encouragement:

As we reflect on these Scriptures, we find encouragement for facing the challenges of life with courage, faith, and perseverance.

From 1 Samuel 17:32-37, we learn from the example of David, who faced the giant Goliath with confidence in God’s strength and deliverance. Like David, we should not be intimidated by the obstacles before us but trust in the Lord’s power to overcome them. Just as God had empowered David to defeat the lion and the bear, He will also equip us to conquer the giants in our lives.

From James 1:1-4, we are reminded of the importance of joy and perseverance in the midst of trials. Instead of being discouraged by difficulties, we should rejoice, knowing that trials produce endurance and maturity in our faith. By persevering through challenges, we become stronger and more complete, lacking nothing that God desires for us.

Therefore, let us face each day with confidence in God’s promises, knowing that He is with us in every trial and will empower us to overcome. May we approach challenges with joy, knowing that they are opportunities for growth and transformation. And may we persevere through every obstacle, trusting in the Lord’s provision and guidance.
