The Power of the Resurrection

KEY VERSE
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.” – Ephesians 1:19-20
TEXT: Ephesians 1:15-23 (KJV)
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in the world which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. Without it, our preaching is in vain, and our faith is futile (1 Corinthians 15:14). But with it, everything changes. Death is defeated. Sin is conquered. Hope is alive.
In today’s passage, Paul prays that believers would know “the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe.” This is not a small or ordinary power. It is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at the right hand of God, far above all principality, power, might, and dominion.
The power that conquered the grave is the power that works in you. The power that shattered the chains of death is the power that breaks the chains of sin. The power that exalted Christ to the highest place is the power that lifts you from the pit of despair.
Paul describes this power with three key words:
1. “Exceeding greatness” – This is not a limited or measured power. It is abundant, overflowing, beyond calculation. No problem is too great for this power. No enemy is too strong. No situation is too hopeless.
2. “To us-ward who believe” – This power is not theoretical; it is practical. It is directed toward us. It is available to us. It is activated by faith. The same power that raised Christ is at work in those who believe.
3. “According to the working of his mighty power” – This power is not passive; it is active. It is working. It is operating. It is accomplishing God’s purposes in and through us.
The result of this power is that Christ is seated “far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion.” He is not merely above them; He is far above them. The distance is infinite. His authority is absolute. His supremacy is unquestioned.
And here is the astonishing truth: we are united with Him. We are seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). What is true of Christ is true of us. His victory is our victory. His authority is our authority. His position is our position.
The enemy may roar, but he is under Christ’s feet – and because we are in Christ, he is under our feet. The powers of darkness may scheme, but they are far beneath the exalted Christ. And we are seated with Him.
This is the power of the resurrection. It is not just a historical event; it is a present reality. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in you today.

COMMENTARY
Introduction: The Resurrection Power
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central event of human history. It validates His claims, secures our salvation, and demonstrates God’s power over death. But the resurrection is not merely a past event to be celebrated; it is a present power to be experienced.
Paul prays that believers would know “the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe.” This is not head knowledge; it is heart revelation. It is not intellectual assent; it is experiential reality.
The Same Power
The power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power that works in believers. This is astonishing. The power that shattered the grave, that broke the chains of death, that conquered the forces of darkness – this power is directed toward us.
What does this mean?
– The power that raised Christ can raise your dead dreams.
– The power that shattered the grave can shatter your chains of addiction.
– The power that conquered death can conquer every enemy.
The Exalted Christ
The resurrection was followed by the ascension. Christ was seated at the right hand of God – the place of authority, honour, and dominion. He is “far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion.”
No demon is above Him. No principality outranks Him. No power challenges His authority. He is supreme. He is sovereign. He is Lord.
Our Position in Him
Because we are united with Christ, we share in His position. We are seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). What is true of Him is true of us. His victory is our victory. His authority is our authority.
This is not arrogance; it is faith. We do not claim power in ourselves; we claim power in Him. We do not boast in our strength; we boast in His.
The Prayer for Revelation
Paul prays for three specific revelations:
1. The hope of His calling – the certainty of our future glory
2. The riches of His inheritance – the immeasurable value of belonging to Him
3. The exceeding greatness of His power – the supernatural enablement for daily living
These are not automatic; they are revealed by the Spirit. We must pray for open eyes and enlightened understanding.
DECLARATIONS BASED ON THE DEVOTIONAL
I DECLARE that I know the exceeding greatness of God’s power toward me who believe!
I DECLARE that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is working in me!
I DECLARE that Christ is seated far above all principality, power, might, and dominion!
I DECLARE that every enemy is under His feet – and because I am in Him, they are under my feet!
I DECLARE that I am seated with Christ in heavenly places!
I DECLARE that no principality or power can stand against me because I am in Christ!
I DECLARE that the resurrection power breaks every chain in my life!
I DECLARE that the power that conquered death conquers every enemy in my life!
I DECLARE that my understanding is enlightened to know the hope of His calling!
I DECLARE that I know the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints!
PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Father, I thank You for the exceeding greatness of Your power toward me who believe. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is working in me.
Open the eyes of my understanding. Let me know the hope of Your calling, the riches of Your inheritance, and the greatness of Your power.
I declare that Christ is seated far above all principality, power, might, and dominion. And because I am in Him, I am seated with Him. No enemy can stand against me.
Let the resurrection power break every chain. Let it raise every dead dream. Let it conquer every enemy.
I walk in the victory of the risen Christ.
