INTERCESSION FOR IRAN 🇮🇷

Lord, I call to You now concerning the great nation of Iran. I ask You to be with the innocent people there. Protect them, and bring justice and liberation from evil and oppression in Jesus’ name.

Oh God who loves justice, I ask You to bring judgement and removal to evil-doers. Let there be interruption in the plans of the enemy. Let every pharaoh and Herod drink of the cup they’ve poured out for others, and may the justice of the Lord prevail.

Great God Most High, I ask You to bring revelation of Jesus Christ to those who are deceived in Iran. Turn the heart of beautiful Iran to the Lord Jesus Christ.

And in the midst of it all, Lord I ask You to protect Your people there, provide for their needs, and send angels to assist, guide and guard.

Current Political Crisis in Iran: A Summary

As of January 12, 2026, Iran is experiencing one of its most severe political crises in decades, marked by widespread anti-government protests that began in late December 2025 and have escalated rapidly.

The unrest was initially triggered by severe economic hardships, including soaring inflation, currency collapse, and crippling sanctions, but has quickly turned political, with protesters chanting against the Islamic Republic’s leadership and calling for greater freedoms.

Reports indicate protests across multiple provinces, with a nationwide internet blackout imposed by the regime to hinder coordination.

The government’s response has been brutal: security forces have cracked down harshly, resulting in hundreds to potentially thousands of deaths (estimates range from over 500 confirmed protester and security force fatalities to higher figures amid the blackout), thousands arrested, and accusations that protesters are “terrorists” backed by foreign powers like the US and Israel.

President Masoud Pezeshkian has promised economic reforms while blaming external interference, and Iranian officials have issued threats of retaliation against US troops or Israel if intervention occurs.

Some analysts suggest the regime’s stability is gravely threatened, with potential for significant change by year’s end, though no imminent collapse is evident.

From a full Gospel viewpoint—rooted in the complete message of Christ’s salvation, the authority of Scripture, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the call to spiritual warfare through prayer (Ephesians 6:12)—the crisis in Iran is both a tragedy of human oppression and a profound opportunity for God’s kingdom to advance.

The Islamic Republic’s theocratic regime has long suppressed religious freedom, persecuted Christians and other minorities, enforced strict Islamic laws, and exported instability, standing in opposition to biblical principles of justice, liberty, and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Yet, paradoxically, Iran is widely reported as home to the fastest-growing underground church in the world, with hundreds of thousands (possibly over a million) Iranians turning to Christ in secret house churches, often through dreams, visions, and satellite evangelism, despite severe risks of imprisonment or execution.

This mirrors Acts 8:1-4, where persecution scattered believers and spread the Gospel.

The current unrest reflects a deep desire among many Iranians—especially the youth—for freedom from economic despair, enforced religion, and authoritarian rule, echoing the biblical cry for deliverance (Exodus 3:7-10).

In this chaos, believers see God’s sovereign hand at work, potentially weakening strongholds of spiritual darkness (2 Corinthians 10:4) and opening doors for revival, as prophesied in passages like Jeremiah 49:34-39, which speaks of breaking the “bow” (military power) of ancient Elam (part of modern Iran) while promising restoration and a return to God.

We are called to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) for peace, salvation, and righteous change (1 Timothy 2:1-4), standing in faith that God desires all to be saved (2 Peter 3:9), even regime leaders. The crisis amplifies risks for underground believers but also creates openings for the Gospel amid disillusionment with imposed religion.

Ultimately, this is not just political—it’s spiritual warfare, where the full Gospel of Christ’s victory can bring transformation, healing, and a great harvest of souls.
