It is hard to believe now, but the potato was once a highly unpopular food. When first introduced into England by Sir Walter Raleigh, newspapers printed editorials against it, ministers preached sermons against it, and the general public wouldn’t touch it. It was interpreted as a plant that caused all manner of strange illnesses—even death. There were however, a few brave men who did not believe all the propaganda being mounted against it. It took years before all the adverse publicity was overcome and the potato became popular! Oh! My sweet Potato! It taught the world a lesson that it is opposition that provokes OPPORTUNITY! Oh! A wise man once said: “Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.” David wrote in today’s scripture(Psalm 3:1), “Many are those that rise up against me.” David was a worshiper, a shepherd, a king, etc. Anything that was great inside of him and whatever he became was developed through opposition!
