TOPIC: THE NUCLEAR FALSE ALARM: LOOK AGAIN BEFORE YOU LEAP

CLICK TO READ BASIC SCRIPTURE Sunday 3rd November 2026

In 1983, during the tense days of the Cold War, a Soviet military officer named Stanislav Petrov was on duty monitoring nuclear warning systems. The computer system triggered a false alarm which “showed” that the United States had launched nuclear missiles toward the Soviet Union! Panic filled the room! You do not play with a nuclear bomb! It takes down cities in a single blast. Now, this officer needed to make a quick judgment. One wrong judgment could trigger a catastrophic nuclear war capable of killing millions of people. But Stanislav Petrov paused! Yes! Instead of reacting emotionally or trusting appearances immediately, he questioned the situation carefully. Something did not feel right to him! Though the screens looked convincing, he chose to wait and investigate further. And he was right! The alert was a false alarm caused by a satellite error! A global nuclear disaster was averted because one man paused! James 1:19 says, “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” In the world of safety and hazard prevention, there is a powerful word called, “STOP.” It is used to prevent accidents and disasters! S means – Stop before reacting emotionally! “T” means – Think and pray before speaking or concluding! O means – Observe carefully because appearances can deceive! P means – Proceed only after wisdom and understanding have spoken! Ah! If Mr. Petrov had ignored this safety principle, millions could have died because of one rushed conclusion! In the same way, many people have destroyed marriages, friendships, ministries and destinies because they failed to apply spiritual “STOP.” Fools react first and think later! Many regrets in life began because somebody refused to, “STOP” before making a decision! Learn! Apply this principle of “STOP” as you go out daily! Look before you leap!
