BASIC SCRIPTURE Sunday 3rd November 2026 BIBLE READING PRAYER POINTS AND DECLARATIONS

BASIC SCRIPTURES: JAMES 1:19-25; PROVERBS 14:15-17
BASIC SCRIPTURE: TUESDAY, 3RD NOVEMBER 2026 — JAMES 1:19-25 (KJV)
-
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
-
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
-
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
-
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
-
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
-
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
-
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
BASIC SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 14:15-17 (KJV)
-
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
-
A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
-
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — TUESDAY, 3RD NOVEMBER 2026
Key Verse (James): James 1:22 — “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
Key Verse (Proverbs): Proverbs 14:15 — “The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”
Swift to Hear, Slow to Speak, Slow to Wrath (James 1:19):
James gives three practical commands. Be swift to hear. Listen more than you talk. Be attentive. Be teachable. Be humble. Be slow to speak. Think before you talk. Weigh your words. Do not be impulsive. Do not be rash. Be slow to wrath. Do not be quick-tempered. Do not explode in anger. Do not lose your temper. Anger is dangerous. Anger is destructive. Anger is divisive. The wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. It does not accomplish God’s purposes. It does not build His kingdom. It only produces damage. It only creates pain. It only brings destruction.
Lay Apart All Filthiness (James 1:21):
James commands us to lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness. Lay aside. Put away. Remove. Get rid of. Filthiness is moral impurity. It is sin. It is uncleanness. Superfluity of naughtiness is an overflow of wickedness. It is the excess. It is the abundance. It is the surplus. Lay it all apart. And then receive with meekness the engrafted word. The word is engrafted. It is implanted. It is rooted. It is planted. It is able to save your souls. The word of God is powerful. It is effective. It is life-changing. It is soul-saving. Receive it with meekness. With humility. With submission. With obedience. Let it take root in your heart. Let it grow. Let it bear fruit. Let it save your soul.
Be Ye Doers of the Word (James 1:22):
This is the key verse. Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only. Hearing is not enough. Listening is not enough. Knowing is not enough. Studying is not enough. You must do. You must obey. You must act. You must practice. You must live it out. If you hear and do not do, you deceive yourself. You think you are spiritual. You think you are mature. You think you are growing. But you are not. You are deceived. You are fooling yourself. You are pretending. You are playing games. Do not be a hearer only. Be a doer.
The Mirror (James 1:23-24):
James gives an illustration. A man looks in a mirror. He sees his natural face. He sees himself as he is. But then he goes his way. And he forgets what he looks like. He forgets what he saw. He forgets his own reflection. This is the hearer only. He hears the word. He sees himself in the word. He sees his flaws. He sees his sins. He sees his shortcomings. But then he walks away. He forgets. He does not change. He does not act. He does not obey. The word has no effect on his life. The mirror showed him the truth, but he ignored it.
The Perfect Law of Liberty (James 1:25):
But the doer is different. He looks into the perfect law of liberty. He looks into the word of God. He looks into the truth. And he continues therein. He does not forget. He does not walk away. He does not ignore. He remembers. He meditates. He obeys. He is not a forgetful hearer. He is a doer of the work. And he is blessed in his deed. He is blessed in his obedience. He is blessed in his action. He is blessed in his life.
The Simple and the Prudent (Proverbs 14:15):
Solomon gives a contrast. The simple believeth every word. The simple is gullible. The simple is naive. The simple is easily deceived. He believes everything he hears. He does not test. He does not examine. He does not discern. He does not verify. But the prudent man looketh well to his going. The prudent man is careful. The prudent man is discerning. The prudent man is wise. He looks at his path. He examines his steps. He considers his ways. He does not believe everything. He tests everything. He holds fast to what is good. He rejects what is false.
The Wise and the Fool (Proverbs 14:16):
A wise man fears and departs from evil. He reverences God. He honours God. He respects God. He does not take sin lightly. He does not tolerate evil. He does not entertain temptation. He departs from it. He flees from it. He avoids it. But the fool rages and is confident. The fool is arrogant. The fool is overconfident. The fool is reckless. The fool is proud. The fool is careless. The fool does not fear God. The fool does not depart from evil. The fool rages. The fool is confident in his own strength. And he falls.
The Soon Angry (Proverbs 14:17):
He that is soon angry deals foolishly. He who is quick-tempered acts foolishly. He who loses his temper makes mistakes. He who explodes in anger makes bad decisions. Anger leads to foolishness. Anger leads to foolish actions. Anger leads to foolish words. Anger leads to foolish choices. And a man of wicked devices is hated. The man who plots evil is hated. The man who schemes is hated. The man who devises wickedness is hated. Both the angry man and the wicked man are foolish. Both are destructive. Both are hated.
The Lesson for Us:
Be swift to hear. Slow to speak. Slow to wrath. Lay apart filthiness. Receive the word with meekness. Be a doer of the word. Do not just hear. Do not just know. Do not just study. Do. Obey. Act. Live it out. Look into the perfect law of liberty. Continue therein. Do not forget. Do not walk away. Be blessed in your deed. Be prudent. Look well to your going. Be wise. Fear God. Depart from evil. Do not be simple. Do not be a fool. Do not be soon angry. Do not deal foolishly. Be a doer of the word. And you will be blessed.
Question for the Day — Tuesday, 3rd November 2026:
Are you a hearer only or a doer of the word? Are you swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath? Do you look into the perfect law of liberty and continue therein? Are you prudent, or are you simple? Be a doer of the word. And you will be blessed in your deed.
