BASIC SCRIPTURE: SUNDAY, 1ST NOVEMBER 2026 — NUMBERS 12:1-10 (KJV)
-
And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
-
And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
-
(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
-
And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
-
And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
-
And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
-
My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
-
With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
-
And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
-
And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — SUNDAY, 1ST NOVEMBER 2026
Key Verse (Numbers): Numbers 12:8 — “Wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”
Key Verse (Psalm): Psalm 105:15 — “Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.”
The Murmuring of Miriam and Aaron (Numbers 12:1-2):
Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses. They criticized him. They murmured against him. They challenged his authority. Their complaint was about the Ethiopian woman Moses had married. But their real issue was deeper. They were jealous. They were envious. They wanted equal standing. They said, “Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us?” They wanted to be recognized. They wanted to be elevated. They wanted to be honoured. They wanted to be seen as equal to Moses. And the Lord heard it.
The Meekness of Moses (Numbers 12:3):
The Bible gives a remarkable description of Moses. “Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.” Moses did not defend himself. He did not argue with Miriam and Aaron. He did not fight back. He did not retaliate. He did not try to prove his authority. He was meek. He was humble. He was gentle. He was lowly. He left his defence in God’s hands. He let God fight for him.
The Lord’s Defence (Numbers 12:4-8):
God called Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to the tabernacle. He came down in the pillar of the cloud. He stood at the door of the tabernacle. He called Aaron and Miriam forward. And He defended Moses. He spoke of His relationship with Moses. He said that He spoke to prophets in visions and dreams. But with Moses, He spoke mouth to mouth. Apparently. Not in dark speeches. Moses beheld the similitude of the LORD. Moses was faithful in all His house. And then God asked the critical question: “Wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” Why were you not afraid? Why did you not tremble? Why did you not hesitate? Do you not know who he is? Do you not know how I regard him? Do you not know how I defend him?
The Anger of the Lord (Numbers 12:9-10):
The anger of the LORD was kindled against them. He departed. The cloud departed from the tabernacle. And Miriam became leprous. White as snow. She was struck with leprosy. She was judged. She was punished. She was humiliated. She was shamed. Because she spoke against God’s servant. Because she murmured against God’s anointed. Because she challenged God’s chosen.
Touch Not Mine Anointed (Psalm 105:15):
The psalmist records God’s command. “Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.” God’s anointed are sacred. They are set apart. They are chosen. They are appointed. They are consecrated. And God defends them. He protects them. He guards them. He vindicates them. Do not touch them. Do not harm them. Do not speak against them. Do not lift your hand against them. Do not lift your tongue against them. God will not take it lightly.
The Lesson for Us:
Do not speak against God’s servants. Do not murmur against His anointed. Do not criticize His prophets. Do not challenge His chosen. God hears. God sees. God knows. And God defends His own. Even if they are flawed. Even if they are imperfect. Even if they make mistakes. God still defends them. He still protects them. He still vindicates them. Do not be like Miriam and Aaron. Do not be jealous of their position. Do not envy their calling. Do not covet their anointing. Honour them. Respect them. Pray for them. Support them. And God will be pleased with you. And you will not face His judgment.
Question for the Day — Sunday, 1st November 2026:
Have you spoken against God’s servants? Have you murmured against His anointed? Have you criticized His prophets? Repent. Honour them. Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
