ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — FRIDAY, 30TH OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse: Psalm 46:1 — “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God Is Our Refuge and Strength (Verse 1):
The psalm begins with a declaration of who God is. God is our refuge. A refuge is a place of safety. It is a shelter from the storm. It is a stronghold against the enemy. It is a hiding place from danger. It is a sanctuary from trouble. God is also our strength. Strength is what we need when we are weak. Strength is what we need when we are weary. Strength is what we need when we are overwhelmed. Strength is what we need when we cannot go on. God is our strength. Not a distant strength. Not a theoretical strength. Not an abstract strength. But a personal strength. Our strength. And He is a very present help in trouble. Not a distant help. Not a delayed help. Not an absent help. But a very present help. He is present. He is near. He is available. He is ready. He is willing. He is able. In trouble. In the midst of trouble. In the middle of the storm. In the heat of the battle. He is a very present help.
Therefore Will Not We Fear (Verses 2-3):
Because God is our refuge and strength. Because He is a very present help in trouble. Therefore. Therefore. Because of this. For this reason. We will not fear. We will not be afraid. We will not be terrified. We will not be shaken. Even though the earth be removed. Even though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. Even though the waters roar and be troubled. Even though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. These are pictures of catastrophic events. Earthquakes. Tsunamis. Landslides. Disasters. Everything that seems stable is falling apart. Everything that seems secure is being destroyed. Everything that seems permanent is being removed. But we will not fear. Because God is our refuge and strength. The circumstances do not determine our peace. The circumstances do not determine our joy. The circumstances do not determine our security. God determines our peace. God determines our joy. God determines our security.
There Is a River (Verse 4):
In contrast to the roaring, troubled waters of chaos, there is a river. This river is not destructive. It is life-giving. Its streams make glad the city of God. Its streams bring joy. Its streams bring peace. Its streams bring refreshment. Its streams bring life. The city of God is the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High. It is the dwelling place of God. It is the habitation of the Almighty. It is the place where God’s presence resides. And the river flows through it. The river brings gladness. The river brings joy. The river brings celebration. You do not have to drink from the waters of chaos. You do not have to be overwhelmed by the floods of trouble. You have a river. You have streams of joy. You have the presence of God. And His presence makes you glad.
God Is in the Midst of Her (Verse 5):
The city of God shall not be moved. Why? Because God is in the midst of her. Her stability is not in her walls. Her stability is not in her armies. Her stability is not in her wealth. Her stability is not in her resources. Her stability is in the presence of God. God is in the midst. He is at the center. He is in the heart. He is in the core. He is in the very fabric of her existence. And because He is there, she shall not be moved. She shall not be shaken. She shall not be destroyed. She shall not be defeated. She shall not fall. God shall help her. And that right early. At the dawn of morning. When the night is over. When the first light breaks. When the darkness flees. When the day begins. God’s help comes at exactly the right time. Not too late. Not too early. Right on time.
The Heathen Raged (Verses 6-7):
The heathen rage. The nations are in turmoil. The kingdoms are moved. The world is in chaos. There is conflict. There is war. There is violence. There is destruction. But God uttered His voice. He spoke. He thundered. He declared. And the earth melted. The earth dissolved before Him. The earth was consumed by His presence. The earth could not stand before His power. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. This is the key. This is the anchor. This is the foundation. The Lord of hosts is with us. He is not against us. He is not far from us. He is not distant from us. He is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. He is our shelter. He is our protection. He is our safety. Selah. Pause. Think about it. Reflect on it. Meditate on it. The God of the universe is with you. He is your refuge. He is your strength. He is your help. He is your peace. He is your joy. He is your everything.
The Lesson for Us:
Do not fear. Do not be afraid. Do not be shaken. Do not be moved. No matter what is happening around you. No matter what is falling apart. No matter what is being destroyed. No matter what is being removed. God is your refuge. God is your strength. God is your very present help in trouble. He is in your midst. You shall not be moved. He will help you. And He will help you right early. His help is on the way. His help is coming. His help is near. Trust Him. Rest in Him. Rely on Him. He is with you. He will not leave you. He will not forsake you. He is your refuge. He is your strength. He is your God. And He is with you. Always. Forever. Amen.
