BASIC SCRIPTURES: EPHESIANS 4:27; JOSHUA 7:1-12
BASIC SCRIPTURE: WEDNESDAY, 28TH OCTOBER 2026 — EPHESIANS 4:27 (KJV)

-
Neither give place to the devil.
BASIC SCRIPTURE: JOSHUA 7:1-12 (KJV)
-
But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.
-
And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east side of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
-
And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
-
So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
-
And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
-
And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
-
And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
-
O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
-
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
-
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
-
Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
-
Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

PRAYER POINTS — WEDNESDAY, 28TH OCTOBER 2026
-
Father, help me not to give place to the devil in any area of my life. Let me close every door that the enemy could use.

Lord, expose every hidden sin in my life. Let me not be like Achan who hid the accursed thing among his stuff.
-
Father, let me not bring trouble upon my family or my church through disobedience.
-
Lord, help me to deal with sin quickly and completely. Let me not tolerate what You have commanded me to destroy.
-
Father, when I face defeat, let me not blame You or others. Let me examine my own heart first.
-
Lord, let me not be deceived by the appearance of victory. Let me not be presumptuous like Israel at Ai.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — WEDNESDAY, 28TH OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse (Ephesians): Ephesians 4:27 — “Neither give place to the devil.”
Key Verse (Joshua): Joshua 7:12 — “Neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.”
Neither Give Place to the Devil (Ephesians 4:27):
Paul gives a short but powerful command. Do not give place to the devil. Do not give him room. Do not give him ground. Do not give him opportunity. Do not give him access. Do not give him a foothold. The devil is always looking for a place. He is always looking for a door. He is always looking for an opening. He is always looking for an opportunity. And when you give him a place, he will exploit it. He will use it. He will build on it. He will gain more ground. He will enter more doors. He will create more openings. Do not give him a place. Close every door. Shut every opening. Guard every area of your life. Your thoughts. Your words. Your actions. Your relationships. Your finances. Your home. Your time. Do not give the devil an inch. Because if you give him an inch, he will take a mile. If you give him a foothold, he will build a stronghold. If you give him a place, he will take over.
The Trespass of Achan (Joshua 7:1):
Israel had just experienced a great victory. They had conquered Jericho. They had seen the walls fall down. They had seen the power of God. They had been commanded to destroy everything in Jericho. Everything was accursed. Everything was devoted to God. They were not to take anything for themselves. But Achan disobeyed. He took the accursed thing. He took a garment. He took silver. He took gold. He hid them in his tent. He hid them among his stuff. He thought no one would know. He thought no one would find out. He thought he could get away with it. But God knew. God saw. God recorded it. The anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel. One man’s sin affected the whole nation.
Defeat at Ai (Joshua 7:2-5):
Joshua sent men to Ai. They came back with a report. “Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.” They were overconfident. They were presumptuous. They looked at the size of Ai and thought it would be easy. They had just conquered Jericho. The biggest city. The strongest city. The most fortified city. Ai was small. Ai was weak. Ai was insignificant. They thought they could defeat it with a small force. But they were defeated. Thirty-six men died. The hearts of the people melted and became as water. Defeat had come. Discouragement had set in. Fear had entered the camp. All because of sin in the camp.
Joshua’s Cry (Joshua 7:6-9):
Joshua was devastated. He rent his clothes. He fell to the earth on his face. He cried out to God. He asked, “Wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us?” He questioned God. He blamed God. He doubted God. He forgot the promises. He forgot the victories. He forgot the covenant. He was focused on the defeat. He was focused on the problem. He was focused on the circumstance. But God corrected him. “Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?” God did not want him on the ground. God wanted him up. God wanted him to find the cause. God wanted him to find the sin. God wanted him to deal with it.
Israel Hath Sinned (Joshua 7:10-12):
God gave the diagnosis. “Israel hath sinned.” It was not God’s fault. It was not the army’s fault. It was not the strategy’s fault. It was sin. They had transgressed the covenant. They had taken the accursed thing. They had stolen. They had dissembled. They had hidden it among their stuff. And because of it, Israel could not stand before their enemies. They turned their backs before their enemies. They were accursed. God said, “Neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.” The presence of God was conditioned on obedience. The power of God was conditioned on holiness. The victory of God was conditioned on dealing with sin.
The Lesson for Us:
Do not give place to the devil. Do not allow sin in your life. Do not tolerate what God has commanded you to destroy. Do not hide it. Do not conceal it. Do not keep it among your stuff. Deal with it. Confess it. Forsake it. Destroy it. Because sin affects more than you. It affects your family. It affects your church. It affects your community. It affects your nation. Your hidden sin can bring defeat to many. Your hidden sin can cause the hearts of many to melt. Your hidden sin can close the door to God’s presence. Do not be like Achan. Do not bring trouble upon the camp. Do not give the devil a place. Guard your heart. Guard your life. Guard your home. Purge yourself. Cleanse yourself. Separate yourself from all that dishonours God. And the presence of the Lord will remain with you. His power will remain upon you. His victory will remain your portion.
Question for the Day — Wednesday, 28th October 2026:
Is there a place you have given to the devil? Is there an accursed thing in your life? Is there hidden sin among your stuff? Do not hide it. Do not keep it. Deal with it. Confess it. Forsake it. And God’s presence will be restored.
