BASIC SCRIPTURE 26th OCTOBER 2026 BIBLE READING PRAYER POINTS AND DECLARATIONS

BASIC SCRIPTURES: MARK 8:34-38; 1 TIMOTHY 6:6-10
BASIC SCRIPTURE: MONDAY, 26TH OCTOBER 2026 — MARK 8:34-38 (KJV)
-
And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
-
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
-
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
-
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
-
Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 TIMOTHY 6:6-10 (KJV)
-
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
-
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
-
And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
-
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
-
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — MONDAY, 26TH OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse (Mark): Mark 8:36 — “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Key Verse (1 Timothy): 1 Timothy 6:6 — “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
Deny Yourself, Take Up Your Cross (Mark 8:34):
Jesus gave three commands to anyone who wants to follow Him. First, deny yourself. Denial does not mean just giving up chocolate or television. It means saying no to your own lordship. It means dethroning your own will, desires, ambitions, and rights. Self-denial is not self-improvement. It is self-crucifixion. Second, take up your cross. The cross was not a burden like a difficult job or a bad marriage. The cross was an instrument of death. Taking up your cross means embracing the death of your own plans, reputation, comfort, and even your life for the sake of Christ. Third, follow Me. After denying yourself and taking up your cross, you follow Jesus. Not a philosophy, not a church, not a pastor — but Jesus Himself.
Save Your Life or Lose It (Mark 8:35):
The world says, “Save yourself.” Jesus says, “Lose yourself.” The world says, “Hold on to your life.” Jesus says, “Let it go.” The one who clings to comfort, reputation, safety, and control will lose everything in the end. The one who releases it all for Jesus will find true life — now and forever. This is the great paradox of discipleship. To live, you must die. To gain, you must lose. To be first, you must be last. To be great, you must be servant.
What Shall It Profit? (Mark 8:36-37):
Jesus asks two questions. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul? Nothing. There is no profit. There is no gain. There is no benefit. You can have every dollar. You can have every achievement. You can have every pleasure. You can have every relationship. You can have every honour. But if you lose your soul, you have nothing. And what can a man give in exchange for his soul? Nothing. There is no exchange. There is no equivalent. There is no substitution. The soul is priceless. It is eternal. It is valuable beyond measure.
Ashamed of Me (Mark 8:38):
Jesus gives a warning. If you are ashamed of Him and of His words in this adulterous and sinful generation, He will be ashamed of you when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels. Do not be ashamed of Jesus. Do not be ashamed of His words. Do not be ashamed of the gospel. Do not be ashamed of your faith. Be bold. Be courageous. Be unashamed. Because He is coming again. And when He comes, He will reward those who honoured Him. He will honour those who honoured Him. He will glorify those who glorified Him.
Godliness with Contentment (1 Timothy 6:6-8):
Paul gives a profound truth. Godliness with contentment is great gain. Not godliness without contentment. Not contentment without godliness. Both together. Godliness is the life of faith. It is the life of holiness. It is the life of obedience. It is the life of devotion. Contentment is the attitude of satisfaction. It is being content with what God has given. It is not coveting. It is not grasping. It is not striving. It is not complaining. It is accepting. It is trusting. It is resting. It is being satisfied in God. We brought nothing into this world. We will carry nothing out. Having food and raiment, we should be content. Not having everything. Not having abundance. Not having luxury. Just food and raiment. Just the basics. Just the necessities. And with those, we should be content.
The Love of Money (1 Timothy 6:9-10):
Paul gives a warning. Those who will be rich fall into temptation and a snare. They fall into many foolish and hurtful lusts. They drown in destruction and perdition. The love of money is the root of all evil. Not money itself. The love of money. The craving. The coveting. The pursuit. The obsession. Some have coveted after money and erred from the faith. They have wandered from the truth. They have departed from the gospel. They have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. They have inflicted pain on themselves. They have caused their own suffering. They have brought grief to their own souls. The love of money is dangerous. It is destructive. It is deadly.
The Lesson for Us:
Do not gain the world and lose your soul. Do not be ashamed of Jesus. Deny yourself. Take up your cross. Follow Him. Be content with what you have. Do not love money. Do not covet. Do not pursue riches. Pursue godliness. Pursue holiness. Pursue righteousness. Pursue contentment. Because godliness with contentment is great gain. It is the greatest gain. It is eternal gain. It is spiritual gain. It is the only gain that matters.
Question for the Day — Monday, 26th October 2026:
Have you denied yourself and taken up your cross? Are you trying to save your life or lose it for Christ’s sake? Is your soul more valuable to you than the whole world? And are you walking in godliness with contentment?
