BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 JOHN 5:10-18 (KJV)

10. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15. And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

16. If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

17. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

18. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, I believe on the Son of God. Let the witness of eternal life be in my heart, not just in my head.

2. Lord, I receive the record of God — that You have given me eternal life through Your Son. Let me never doubt this gift.

3. Father, I thank You that because I have the Son, I have life. Let me live in the fullness of that life today.

4. Lord, I know that I have eternal life, not because of my feelings, but because of Your Word. Let this assurance anchor my soul.

5. Father, give me confidence in prayer. When I ask according to Your will, let me know that You hear me and that I have the petitions I desire.

6. Lord, show me how to intercede for my brothers and sisters who sin. Give me wisdom to pray for restoration and life.

7. Father, I know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not. Let me keep myself from sin, and let the wicked one not touch me.

8. Lord, I thank You that I am begotten of God. Keep me from evil and preserve me from the enemy.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I believe on the Son of God. I have the witness in myself. God has given me eternal life.

2. I have the Son, and I have life. I do not have the Son of God, and I do not have life. I have the Son, so I have life.

3. I know that I have eternal life. My assurance is not in my feelings. My assurance is in the Word of God.

4. I have confidence in God. When I ask according to His will, He hears me, and I have the petitions I desired.

5. I intercede for my brothers and sisters. I pray for their restoration and life.

6. I am born of God. I do not live in sin. I keep myself, and the wicked one does not touch me.

7. I am begotten of God. I am preserved from evil. The enemy has no hold on me.

8. Eternal life is mine. I walk in it today and forever.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: 1 John 5:13 — “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

The Witness in Himself (Verse 10):

Those who believe on the Son of God have the witness in themselves. This is the inner testimony of the Holy Spirit. It is not just an external record. It is an internal reality. You know that you know. But those who do not believe make God a liar because they reject the record He gave of His Son. Unbelief is not just a mistake. It is a dishonour to God. It calls Him a liar.

The Record of Eternal Life (Verse 11):

The record is clear: God has given us eternal life. This life is not a future promise only. It is a present possession. It is not in a church, a system, or a ritual. It is in His Son. If you have the Son, you have life. If you do not have the Son, you do not have life. The issue is not morality, religion, or effort. The issue is the Son.

He That Hath the Son Hath Life (Verse 12):

This is the gospel in one sentence. Having the Son is having life. Not having the Son is not having life. Eternal life is not a reward for good behaviour. It is a gift received through faith in Christ. You cannot have life apart from Him. You cannot earn life without Him. He is the life.

That Ye May Know (Verse 13):

John writes so that believers may know they have eternal life. This is not arrogance. This is assurance. God does not want you to live in doubt. He wants you to know. You can be certain. You can be confident. You can rest in the finished work of Christ.

Confidence in Prayer (Verses 14-15):

When you ask according to God’s will, He hears you. And if you know that He hears you, you know that you have the petitions you desired. This is not blank-check prayer. It is prayer aligned with God’s will. When your will aligns with His will, your prayers are answered. The key is not just asking. It is asking according to His will.

Intercession for a Sinning Brother (Verse 16):

John speaks of a sin not unto death and a sin unto death. He does not define the sin unto death. But he says we should pray for those whose sin is not unto death. There is a limit to intercession. Some sins lead to death. But for most sins, prayer can bring life. Intercede for your brothers and sisters. Ask God to restore them.

All Unrighteousness Is Sin (Verse 17):

This is a clear statement. There is no sin that is not sin. But not all sin leads to death. There is a distinction in consequences. Some sins are forgivable. Some sins lead to spiritual death. The solution is not to sin lightly. But it is also not to despair of forgiveness for every sin. God is merciful.

Born of God Sinneth Not (Verse 18):

Those who are born of God do not continue in sin. They do not live in habitual, unrepentant sin. They keep themselves. And the wicked one touches them not. This is not a promise of sinless perfection. It is a promise of divine protection. When you are born of God, the enemy cannot take you. You are kept by the power of God.

Question for the Day:

Do you know that you have eternal life? Have you the witness in yourself? And do you have confidence in prayer, knowing that God hears you when you ask according to His will?
