THE GREAT INVITATION Matthew 22:1-14

DAILY GUIDE 2021 4 AUGUST WEDNESDAY

TOPIC: THE GREAT INVITATION

Bible Text: Matthew 22:1-14 Q.4,7

22 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Imagine the President of your country inviting you as a guest at the wedding of his/her daughter. How would you feel? Very important? Imagine you and all other VIPs failing to honour the invitation, at the eleventh hour, each giving one excuse or the other. How appropriate are the excuses the invitees gave in v.5? Some even mistreated and killed the servants the king sent to them. What an embarrassment and insult to the President and the entire nation. Sabotage! God, the King of kings, has prepared not just an evening banquet but an eternal home for us. It is completely free, Christ has paid the price with His blood. Sadly, many, like the invited guests to this banquet, continue to reject the Great Invitation. Thank God that the invitation is still open (Rev 3:20). But we need to get our priorities right to give the correct response. We all must heed the warning in vs. 11-13. The wedding garment probably signifies the “robe of righteousness” which Christ places on those whose sins have been forgiven having trusted in His death to atone for their sins (see Rev 7:14- 15).

So What? Identify the obstacles to your commitment to the Lord and ask Him for wisdom to prioritise our commitments.

Prayer: Thank God for His salvation

Missions: Romania-A legacy of brokenness endures from the days of Ceausescu’s regime, a moral vacuum being filled with every kind of social evil. Substance abuse, prostitution, pornography, human trafficking and challenges to child welfare are widespread. Romania has one of the highest abortion rates in the world, with three or more abortions for every child born. Ask God who rescued this Nation from the grip of communism to still intervene.

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 25-27 that is so rich and completely free.

Memory Verse – Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s(Matt. 22:21)
